I haven't logged in here in a long time. I had RNY at GW hopsital in DC on August 3, 2003. At 6 years post op I have gained about half of my weight back. (Lost 135, regained 75, lost 15 to settle in at about 280, for now.) That's disappointing, of course, as is the total weight lost. I started at 355 and would have loved to reach 180. Oh well.
There has been another development that I suffered. I've become a full-blown alcoholic. I attend AA meetings, have been in rehab, and still can't stop. This terrible disease is the focus of my life, every hour of every day. Weight loss isn't even a concern anymore. All I want to do is stop abusing alcohol. Once I can become sober once and for all, then I can get back to concentrating on my weight.
Please, please heed your doctor's advice and don't drink more than a glass or two of wine a week. I had the propensity all along, and the changes in my body from the surgery just brought it out. I was drinking at least one, and often two bottles of wine each day. Began drinking in the mornings, at work, in secret. It's a terrible fate and one I hope noone who reads this suffers.
