Still Hanging in There!
2 Weeks Post Op -
6/23/08
Hunger is no longer fleeting...It is here to stay. I am now on puree foods so this is helping a little. I have healed very well so this is a plus! Starting to incorporate excerise little by little. I am happy with the weight loss but I have noticed it is coming to a stop becuase I have increased my food intake. I haven't gained but it is a little scary. I have 4 weeks until my first fill....Lord Help!

DOING OK - Day 10 Post Op
6/18/08
Looks like my hunger is sometimes a fleeting feeling. It comes and goes. Day 8 hungry, Day 9 & 10 not hungry. Go figure. Anyway, doing well. Healing well, strips off, scars look good; of the 5 you can only see 3.

OK - NOW I AM HUNGRY!
6/17/08
I have been loving life not having much of an appetite, but today that came to a halt. Dammit I'm hungry now. 8 days post-op and I have to wait until Week 6 to get a fill. What do I do? Maybe when I start the mushy stuff I feel a little better.

I am home & banded! Day 3 post-op
6/12/08
Well let’s see, surgery went very well, the staff at St. Agnes Hospital were great!  I was rolling back right on time; I remember getting a shot of something that made me laugh.  I remember going into the OR and telling them they could not put me to sleep and next thing I know they were waking me up…LOL.  Recovery was OK…I was very cold, my mouth was dry and I needed water bad, but not until I passed my upper GI could I have anything to drink.  I got rolled into my room were my husband was waiting and from that point it was waiting game, all my meds had to be given, then radiology for my upper GI, this was probably the worse part.  Drinking that barium (which taste like chalk, water and metal) was awful but I did it and once I passed that I had to eat something, which I was afraid to do with the band and not knowing how it would feel, but I was cool, my broth went down without incident, then my jell-o and for dessert popsicle!  Any other time I would have told them they were crazy for thing that meal would do something for me but as you lap-banders know after surgery that was too much.  After I ate I was cleared to go home, I slept most of the ride, and my husband took very good care getting me home safe.  He already had the bed nice and ready with propped pillows and all.  Once he put me to bed I was sleep (off and on) through the next day.  Day 1 post-op brought the pain…getting out of bed to use the bathroom was excruciating. How do you get up from a lying position to an upright without using your stomach muscles?  Needless to say this day was the worst, but luckily I had the best pain medicine out there Hydromorphone 2 mg…This stuff is good.  So Day 1 & 2 went by on pain meds, liquids, and sleep.  Today I have been able to move more and get more food down.  However I am not hungry I am only eating because I need to keep my calories up and not send my body into starvation.  So today I was able to make my coffee protein shake (10oz) which taste like a caramel frap from Starbucks for breakfast, then I drank my low carb Fuze (8oz. only 10 calories), lunch I just had 6oz chicken broth (low sodium) and 2 oz banana pudding (also made with my protein powder), again I am only eating because I have to…I have not been hungry yet.  When that kicks in I will face it head on!

1 day to go!

Jun 06, 2008

In 1 day I will have my GG.  I am starting to get nervous and it doesn't help that I was required to move my time to a later slot on the same day.  Not my choice, the doctor needed to put someone in my place.

Also, my chest x-ray showed a dense spot on my right lung so now I have to get a CT Scan done. At first my doctor did not want me to get the lap band and wanted me to concentrate and investigate the spot, but after begging him to allow the surgery and to follow-up with the CT Scan afterwards he agreed to allow it.  Wish me luck!

19 days to go...Almost there!

May 20, 2008

I can't believe how fast the time is going by.  Before you know I will be getting my GG and on liquids...
I have gone to all the restaurants I wanted to visit before my surgery and right now I am thinking I am going to miss this.  Is this just being scared or am I not ready?  I am ready to lose weight, but am I ready for the sacrifice?  I guess some soul searching is in order.

Went to Smokey Bones tonight and even though I thought I needed it so I would not miss it after my GG was in I was very disappointed because it really wasn't all that good.  Now that I am making better food choices I did not even like that greasy stuff sitting on my plate.  I think I am done...I am just going to enjoy eating good and prepare my body for its new accessory.

48 Days and counting! Til my "GG" is put in.

Apr 22, 2008

My "GG" is going to be my nickname for my lap band.

GG stands for Gut Gadget

Anyhoo, I am patiently waiting for my date to roll around.  I have been trying to keep myself busy with trying new foods and making better for choices.  I started back in the gym and plan to go 6 days a week.

I have also been splurging a bit on foods I will give up after June 9th and never pick-up again until after my goal of 180 lbs. is reached.

I have a list of restaurants I need to pay a visit to before...

        Olive Garden (Seafood Alfredo)
Bugaboo Creek (10 oz Prime Rib)
Cold Stone (Cake Batter Ice Cream w/ Brownies & Caramel)
Smokey Bones (Pulled Pork & Brisket)
        Fuddruckers (Nice Juicy Bacon Burger)

I will visit all of these places before the end of May and give these foods the proper goodbye.  I may even shed a tear....
