So I was never really a "Fat Kid" I was very sporty and very active which later lead to my demise....I swam competitively until I was 17 when I had a minor motor bike accident which left me with a half a paralysed left foot ergo the end of competitive swimming and the begining of the bulge....it all happened pretty quickly and its just stayed there.
I was born with 3 kidneys and having spent most of my life in public swimming pools I got LOADS of bladder and kidney infections, when I was about 19 I had a very bad infection which was misdiagnosed and I was treated with long term cortizone and I literally doubled in size in about 9 months, over the last 10 years I have been on and off of cortizone and various other meds, my wieght however has been pretty much the same since I was 19, I'd grown so used ot it that it didnt really bother me albeit sometimes uncomfortable I am a fairly up beat and positive person who lives life to the full.
About 2 years ago my mom decided to have a gastric band put in (having been overweight most of her adult life after having kids) and she has lost a phenominal amount of weight and her health has improved and all sorts of other things. Needless to say I decided to look into the possibility of having bariatric surgery myself, I live in the UK and knew I was going to have to jump through many a hoop before being even concidered, so in January 2007 I set about getting all the right referals from my GP - who by the way is brilliant and is almost wholy responsible for helping me to make the decision and hey presto I'm now on the loosers bench having had my RNY ont he 30th of October...no mess no fuss!
I am thankfull everyday that I made the decision to have surgery and cant wait to be thin again....bring it on!
