I had been wanting this surgery for several years, but never really pursued it.  I made several attempts to get info when I would go to appointments at the base and usually they would just blow me off or give me some diet to try.  Then a friend of mine at work did the lap-band and her insurance covered it so I started pursuing it again and this time I didn't come across any bumps in the road.  Everything went smoothly.  First I made my appt and while the nurse was in talking to me he was telling me about how his wife had it done and he went on about how she was doing and he was answering questions and for the first time I felt like he was on my side and he wasn't trying to talk me out of it and that gave me extra strength b/c I thought I was going to have to convince my doc of why and what not.  This was not the case, he was supportive as well and once we were done with the consultation he walked me down the hall to meet with the referral manager and we started talking and she told me she was having the surgery too and so I decided to go to the same doc as her. I felt so relieved b/c it felt like everyone I came in contact with that day was an angel and everything just fell in to place.  I got through all of my visits with the psych, cardio, ultrasounds, sleep studies, and endoscopy.  I was able to get most of the visits done in the first 3 months.  Everything went so smooth I knew it was meant to be.  The surgeon wanted me to lose weight before the surgery about 25 lbs, that was the only real obstacle.  I did lose 15 and they did the surgery.  I was first scheduled for Jan 22,2007 everything was ago until they called me while I was at my Christmas Party and told me that we would have to reschedule b/c I had not lost the 25 lbs.  I even begged that I was under the BMI he had requested.  I was devastated.  Then I got a phone call about a week later that they had some cancellations and that I was indeed under the BMI they wanted and so the surgery was back on for the same day.  I go up on the Fri before to do the EKG and some blood work and then we drive to Houston to drop of our daughter with grandma and then stay the night and drive back on Sunday to San Antonio to prep for surgery which meant drinking 2 bottles of that lovely drink to clean you out.  I did already know on Fri that there was a slight chance that it may not happen b/c the authorization was still pending.  We had some really bad weather and there were some ice days and people didn't get to work so paper work got delayed.  I showed up though Monday morning ready to go.  About 9 am they let me know that it was cancelled.  I was a little upset but something was keeping me from having surgery that day.  I guess I can look at it as a guardian angel or something SO we rescheduled for the following week, and everything went perfectly.  I have lost 51 lbs in all and I am a little over 2 months out.  No complications, no regrets, I have so much energy and I am so much happier know that food no longer controls me and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
