I REALLY WANT THIS SURGERY. I WANT TO FEEL HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER IN MY LIFE.

10-29-04 I'VE BEEN APPROVED FOR THE BARIATRIC PROGRAM, I HAVE MY FIRST NUTRITIONAL CONSULT SCHEDULED AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GET THROUGH ALL THIS AND SET A DATE. I HAVE A LOT TO STILL DO BUT, I AM BEGINNING MY JOURNEY. VERY EXCITED.
CAN'T WAIT TO BE ABLE TO BEND DOWN AND TIE MY SHOES WITHOUT HAVING DIFFICULTY BREATHING. GO UP STAIRS WITHOUT BEING SHORT OF BREATH. PLAY WITH MY GRAND DAUGHTER WITH OUT GETTING TOO TIRED TOO SOON. GO OUT WITHOUT FEELING ASHAMED OF WHAT I LOOK LIKE. I CAN'T WAIT TO LIVE A NORMAL HEALTHY HAPPIER LIFE !!!!!!

11/04Have seen the nutrionist and have been placed on a 1000-1200 cal diet, have an appt in four weeks if I have lost 10 lbs i will be sent to my first appt with my surgeon. i will also be scheduled to see physciatric person for evaluation.

12/04
I've completed 3 meetings already. I was a little dissapointed because as soon as I had seen the intake person. I new I had to loose up to 10lbs so I started loosing right away which she thought was great. Then I saw the nutrionist who then informed me no weight lose counted! till I got on her scale that day. I was upset about that. I felt I should have been informed of that at my intake. But here I am still trying to take off more weight. I have also seen a person for exercise and she was very incouraging about everything. She was also very informative.

It appears this whole process will take a very long time. Hope I'm wrong.

12/15/04 will be the next appt with nutrionist. Wish me luck

march 2005. I had changed jobs in January I just found out the new ins. didn't cover surgery. So I',m finished.

Aug 2005 Back on the road again my job just changed Ins Now I have Ins. that will cover the surgery. YAHOO.

October 2005 I saw my new PCP today and she referred me to a different surgeon Dr. Ameri. I have most of what they will want me to do under my belt from previously preparing. Hopefully everything will be quick. I already went to a support group meeting it was great. Dr Ameri was so nice and freindly I really enjoyed listening to him and the other speakers.

I have an appt with psychologist Joyce Aronson M.B.A. Ph. D oct 24th. UGI scheduled for the 19th. And last but not least my surgeon consultation was moved up fron Dec 16th to November 4th. I'm so excited aI drive everyone crazy.

10-24-05 ANOTHER SET BACK
ok stopped in my tracks one more time.
I just found out that the hospital where Dr Ameri does the surgery is not covered by my Ins. Do to my misunderstanding of my ins.
I messed up and now have to start over one more time...

I will be going to Dr Loosemans instead of Dr Ameri. I have already done most of this program approx. one year ago. I'm not sure what I will have to redo now. Waiting to here from Seena..

10-25-05
SEENA CALLED OK NOW I'M BEING SENT FOR DIABETIC EDUCATION. I CAN ALSO SET UP FOR NUTRITIONIST VISIT.
WEIGHT DOCUMENTED 220 BY NUTRITIONIST TODAY. I HAVE TO LOOSE 10 LBS. NOV 1ST APPT WITH DIABETIC EDUCATOR SCHEDULED FOR 4:00. HERE I GO AGAIN. AFTER I LOOSE TEN LBS I CAN MAKE AN APPT WITH PSYCH. CAN'T WAIT.

5-19-06
I HAVE UPDATED FOR A WHILE. I HAD PREVIOUSLY STATED I WOULD HAVE SURGERY AT PARKLAND MEDICAL CENTER WITH DR.LOOSEMAN. AFTER BEING PRETTY MUCH STONE WALLED THROUGH PARKLAND MEDICAL CENTER CAUSING ME TO LOOSE ALL FAITH I QUIT THE PROGRAM AND THAT PROGRAM IS ALL OVER! SOON AFTER I FOUND OUT THAT PARKLAND WOULD NO LONGER BE DOING GASTRIC BYPASS. I'M SURE THAT IS WHY THEY STONE WALLED ME AT EVER CORNER. WELL THAT IS ALL OVER! NO MORE LET DOWNS NO MORE TEARS.

AS OF FEBRUARY I WENT BACK TO SEE DR AMERI ONE OF THE MOST CARING DOCTORS I HAVE EVER MET. AFTER SPEAKING TO DOCTOR AMERI AND EXPLAINING WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH TO TRY AND GET THIS SURGERY, HE COULD NOT BELEIVE WHAT PARKLAND PUT ME THROUGH AND PROMISED ME THAT HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF ME APPROPRIATLY FROM THAT MOMENT ON.
WHEN HE LEFT THE ROOM AFTER OUR CONSULT I CRYED FROM HIS COMPASSION FOR ME. AFTER I DID A SHORT YAHOO DANCE.

WELL I'VE DONE EVERYTHING THAT I NEEDED TO DO ONCE AGAIN TO GET THIS SURGERY AND MONDAY MAY 22ND I'M SCHEDULED. I CAN BARELY BELEIVE I'M FINALLY HERE.

DR. DARIUS AMERI.. STONEHAM MASS IS THE DOCTOR THAT I KNOW I WAS MEANT TO HAVE SURGERY BY. I HAVE THE MOST CONFIDENCE IN HIM AS A SURGEON AND A PERSON THAT I COULD HAVE. HE IS NOT ONLY A WONDERFUL DOCTOR BUT A WONDERFUL PERSON...

I WILL BE CHECKING INTO WINCHESTER HOSPITAL AT 11:00 ON MONDAY MORNING AND I BELEIVE I WILL BE HAVING SURGERY AT 1:15 WISH ME LUCK. ONE JOURNEY WILL END AND A NEW AND BRIGHTER LIFE WILL BEGIN.

5-28-06
6 Days Post Op... Can't beleive I'm finally on the other side. Well this is how things went. Checked into the hospital last Monday morning. Got the usual check in information done. Played the waiting game just a little. Layed in wait for all the usally as expected. Winchester Hospital staff was very comforting. Then the time came. Dr Ameri my surgeon came in made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. I saw Louise his nurse running by with a big smile and a wave. I didn't recognize her at first in her surgical scrubs.

Soon after I was waking up in my room I stayed in for about 3 days.

I wasn't very uncomfortable. I was up and going to the BR soon after, I stayed pretty sleepy for a few hours. This too did pass.

Needless to say I finally went home on Thursday May 25th.
My stay at the Hospital was good, They all really new how to take care of me very well and the worse pain I'd ever had was from the air they use during surgery seemed to settle in my L shoulder which at times was very painful. The hospital administered pain medication to help which Dr. Ameri had ordered.

I was glad to get the drain out the morning I went home and just as Dr Ameri had told me the pain subsided. I went home and have not even had to take tylenole.

I'm down 13 lbs as of this am and I'm in shock! Liquids kinda get to me at times but, need to make adjustments when starting a new and healthier life. I new what I signed up for. LMAO.

Well I'll Post again soon

6-6-06 Here I am again. 2 weeks post op with advise for anyone post op. I was really stupid three days ago was hungry and ate scrambled eggs not much about a tablespoon or less. Well I've been very uncomfortable ever since. Saw my Surgeon today and beleive me he was very unhappy with me. I have caused myself to have an ulcer do to not following instruction and only having liquids. He said this was a very dangerous thing at such a short time after surgery. It could cause a leak. I'm on clear fluids for the next four days and medication for an ulcer. PLEASE beleive me I couldn't have done such a foolish thing and was very embarrassed. I asked the doctor if he had rock I could hide under.
SO ADVISE TO ALL NEVER DO WHAT THE DOCTOR SAYS NOT TO DO!!! 17 lbs down.

6/24/06
On Monday 6/26/06 I will be five weeks post op. I have lost 28 pounds and will probably be at a 30 lb loss by Monday. I'm still not very comfortable and feel like I could be getting a stricture. I have difficulty with swallowing almost anything. It seems to sit in my chest and then it slowly subsides, but if no improvement by Monday I will be calling my doctor.
The weight loss is great still on liquids till Monday then I graduate to puree food. Well wish me luck.

6/27/06
Down 30 pounds in five weeks. Thats three ten pound bags of potatoes. One problem I had to call my surgeon today because difficulty swallowing thin liquids like water. I am scheduled for endoscopy with dialation tomorrow. Worried because the Doctor stated that at 5 weeks post op higher risk of a perforation or fistula. I asked if we should wait but, We can't because I'm not getting enough fluids or protein. I'm worried hope all goes well. I'll just think positive and pray alot. Bye Till next post

6/28/06
Endoscopy completed! They only found an ulcer which my surgeon said I had 3 weeks ago. I will continue on with medicine and they will recheck again with an endoscopy in 1 mth.
31 pounds down.
Good luck to all

8/3/06
They did my endoscopy again on Aug 1st and yahoo there is improvement. I'm glad because I certainly don't want to have a resection done to remove the ulcer from my pouch. Have to have another endoscopy in 2 months.
well I'm down 42 pounds which is great. Food especially meat is hard to manage I just feel lousy after I eat it. I'm sure I'll do better in time or I 'll become a vegetarian. Well I'll post again soon.

8-12-06
Ok on lost 3 pounds since 8-3-06 down 45 all together but, no complaints here. 45 sounds and feels great to me. Cloths are smaller, I look smaller, I feel smaller. So I'm very happy. Difficult to get all the protein I need though. Meat just is not for me. Well I'll post again soon and good luck to every one.

8-13-06
Okay this was a huge happy day. Went shopping last night and because I have been having trouble with baggy pants that do not fit my butt & legs I tryed a size 12. OH MY GOD THEY FIT! I couldn't beleive it. From a 18-20 to a 12 YAHOO> I was so happy that I made up a dance called the size 12 jeans dance, too funny. I'm so thrilled I have to tell everyone. I needed happy right about now. Well that's my story and I hope everyone is doing well. Till next time

9-16-06
I saw Dr. Amerie yesterday for my f/u. I'm doing great and he said that my ulcer was healed 80% at last endoscopy. He said I don't need to have another one preformed. I'm down to 160 BMI 29.2. It's really hard to beleive. My health has improved so much and so many other things have also improved. I feel great.

10-12-06
I have been loosing my hair for a little over a month. My doctor ran lab test which showed my ZINC was low. I now take Zinc 50 mg every day for the hair loss. I also found out low zinc can cause loss of taste too. I have been experiencing that but, I think thats a good thing. I have not lost any weight since my last post except for 2 pounds although, I might be loosing inches I'm not sure. I have not been doing anything different I hope the weight starts to come off again but, I'm not getting discouraged about it yet. Oh I forgot never take zinc on an empty stomach it will cause severe abdominal pains. Beleive me it's really bad. Till next time.

2-24-07 OKAY IT'S BEEN ALONG TIME SINCE I'VE UPDATED. HERE GOES AND I CAN'T BELEIVE IT. I WEIGH 133 POUNDS OMG. BACK IN OCT I WAS LOOSING MY HAIR ALOT. I TOOK MY ZINC AND TRYED TO KEEP UP WITH EATTING RIGHT. WELL IT STOPPED AND IT IS GROWING BACK. THE AREA THAT I HAD PROBLEMS WITH ARE GROWING NEW HAIR. I WAS JUST LUCKY BECAUSE I HAD VERY THICK HAIR. I CAN HONESTLY SAY I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS HAPPY IN MY LIFE. AT LEAST NOT WITH MYSELF. YIPPEE

ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES I DON'T FEEL SUPPORTED ANYMORE FROM CERTAIN PEOPLE. THATS OKAY IT'S A BIG CHANGE FOR EVERYONE. I HAVE WAY MORE ENERGY AND I DON'T MIND GOING ANYWHERE ANYMORE. I PRETTY MUCH WANT TO STAND ON TOP OF THE WORLD AND YELL HEY EVERYONE LOOK AT ME, I'M SKINNY.
I CAN BUY SMALL CLOTHES. I EVEN NEED A BELT. I JUST CAN'T BELEIVE IT. I LOVE DR AMERI FOR GIVING ME LIFE. OH YEA I CAN WEAR HIGH HEELS AGAIN AFTER 20 SOMETHING YEARS.

Hey need to update, Doing Great. Feel great weight 119. Loving Life.

Hello to all,  My weight is maintained at 119 pounds.
May 18, 2008

What comes from a happier and healthier life.

I started writing a children's book last year. It was something I had thought of doing many times but never did. When I started writing and it was so amazing I just couldn't stop. I loved writing and using my imagination. I didn't know I had an imagination. Each day I grew happier and happier. I felt like I would explode with excitement. Energy beyond words filled my life.
When I finished my story many people suggested I publish the story. I told them that  they where crazy. Eventually I decided to research the idea. I also decided to illustrate my book since I was unable to get any responds from fairy artist I had emailed in reference to illustrating. One evening I sat down an drew a fairy (yes there are fairies in the book) it wasn't all that bad amazingly enough. I decided if I drew fairies every day I could get better at it. Maybe even enough to illustrate my book. I had never been able to draw before this at all. I draw every day now. At first I only drew fairies I have about 200 a least. I also started to paint them with watercolors. One night a while back, I remembered that someone had given me a set of water colors. I had just finished a fairy drawing and wished I could give it color. I used the watercolors that I found hidden in a box at the bottom of a closet. Well it made the fairy come alive for me. I was so shocked. I am about to print my book. I am author/illustrator/publisher of this book. The book is appox 175 pages, I have the copyright to this book, it as a bar code and a ISBN. There are 19 chapters, 6 pages of color illustrations and a brightly illustrated cover. The printing has been delayed do to editing problems. I hope to have it ready soon. I am only having 100 copies printed for my first run do to the cost. 82 of the 100 have already been ordered. It seems that when people have asked me how I suddenly began painting an drawing the story of the book just spills out of me with such excitement. Some how people get excited for me and want a copy. BELIEVE is the perfect name for this book. Now that I believe in myself again.   This is something I tend to say a lot lately.   I like it here, besides I just got here and I'm not ready to leave yet!   I have a new and wonderful life now. Filled with love, laughter, spirit, energy, fiends, art, enchantment, magic,  imagination, beauty, and no regrets.

Hi Everyone,
This is an article that ran recently in a NH newspaper. This is proof of a happier life.

One correction about the article. I am the publisher of my book. A local printer wil be printing the book.

HAMPTON — No one likes to have their blood drawn. But if you happen to go to Lab Corp in Hampton, you will meet Doreen Malek, a small, lively woman with a gentle disposition and a story to tell.

Not only does Malek draw blood, she also draws characters for a children's book she has written and will soon have published by a local printer.

The talent to draw and illustrate came recently to Malek.

"When I decided to write a children's book I looked for an artist to illustrate the story," she said. "On a whim I decided to draw my characters and their situation. I found I could draw and it was fun and I loved it. Now each day I find myself drawing something."

Her drawings for the book are of fairies with flowing hair and gossamer wings that float in pastel colors across the page. Characters in the book titled "Believe" are Bella and Michael. They are two friends who together have the courage to walk through the deep dark woods entering the fairy realm to learn some life lessons.

Malek said her book will appeal to ages 8 and up.

"It is about having goals and imagination, with nature, friendship, adventure and hope all mixed in," Malek said. "We need to have goals that make us feel positive about life. Writing and illustrating this book has made me want to share what I have learned with others."

Malek is already thinking of a possible sequel. But for now she is concentrating on making sure that the first addition of "Believe" happens. Given the energy and positive spirit of the woman who wrote and illustrated the book there is no doubt there will be more adventures with Bella and Michael.

The book will be available in a limited edition by mid-May. The author may be reached at [email protected].  or [email protected]
