The first stall...

Jul 06, 2010

As of yesterday I weighed 286 lbs (Monday's weight was 130 kg at my pain god's office).  Had a doctors appointment, finally, where I found out that they had sent the referral, but that the Barix people sent a different form.  So the nurse asked me a few questions from it, and warned me that this was no guarantee that WLS would be approved for me.  One of the questions, was whether my weight restricts me from doing normal everyday activities.... no, but my fibro does!

On a more positive note, I'm being sent for a MRI, to check to make sure my fibro is not actually MS.  The doctor says that there's no big reason to think that it is, but he knew that I wanted to check for sure.  I'm concerned mainly because of the shocks I get (feels like a small electric current, kind of like what you can get if you hold a damaged cord) and because I'm losing the feeling in my hands and feet, the hands can be attributed to Carpal Tunnel (yes I've been diagnosed), and the feet could be because of my sciatica, but the shocks can't really be attributed to anything.  It used to only happen when I had a huge sneeze, then it progressed to when I was startled, but now it can come at anytime.  Nothing I can do to bring it on (although I had an episode after).

Unfortunately it will be an MRI of my brain only, not my back (which I still want at this point, but only my chiropractor agrees and I would have to pay out of pocket for it.

The Re-Start

May 11, 2010

Here it is almost a year later.  I'm 31, and as of today I weigh 296.  I was a little lower a few months ago, and I'm not surprised that I'm up right now.  With a week away, and not the best food choices, and of course my monthly prize.

I had a doctor's appointment today and discussed weight loss with the doctor again.  I told him that I had already seen a dietician about 6 years ago, and had already tried Xenical (he put me on it).  While on the Xenical, I lost 13 pounds.  And I didn't remember to take the pill most of the time.  When I stopped it, I lost another 13 pounds, and have wavered around that weight mark since.  He asked me if I wanted to look into a procedure and I said that I did.  I gave him the print out from the registry site, which gives the address/numbers to send in the referral.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to get a VSG(?), as I need to take narcotics to help with my fibromyalgia.

On our recent trip away, I was only about 1 hour north of the Barix clinic in MI, but didn't have the time or the extra gas money to go there.  We go back at least once in June (maybe twice) and I may make that trip then.

The Start

May 24, 2009

Well, it only took a month, but I finally asked my doctor for help with weight loss.

He prescribed Xenical for me.  He wants to help me lose weight and hopefully in the process help my back injury to heal.

Took it to the pharmacy to find out how much... $180/month... ouch.

But then a  miracle!  My benefits company accepted it!  So now it's $44/month instead!

So I just had a croissant with margarine and took the first pill.  I know it's not instantaneous.

Now, waiting.

The Beginning

Apr 19, 2009

I'm 30 years old, and have managed to twice take off 50+ pounds.  The last time I lost 60 pounds, and then suffered a back injury and have gained 80 pounds since then.

I have always considered looking into this, but thought I would wait until after having children.  I didn't know, and still really don't know, if my body could handle a pregnancy, healthily.  At this point, I have not tried to get pregnant yet, but because of the back injury, I'm trying to look at everything that may help.

I actually had a consultation for a breast reduction on Wednesday, which did not go well.  The doctor, stick thin man that he is, won't even consider doing this "elective" (for him... I don't see it as elective) surgery until I have at least lost the 80 pounds, plus more.

I'm just starting out this journey, but I know there is a lot to consider.  I look forward to learning more, and meeting new friends here.
