I had an RNY in 2000 and only lost a small percentage of weight and have since gained it all back. I was just resigned to being a 'failure' and only recently learned about the possibility of revisional surgery. After much reading (thank-you OHers!) I believe a revision to a full BPD-DS would be the best surgery for me to lose the extra weight and keep it off. I also look forward to not having dumping syndrome anymore, being able to take a bigger variety of medications and hopefully having less trouble with bouts of hypoglycemia which I've had since the RNY and no more ulcers hopefully! I of course have the normal fears and concerns too. I know that this revision surgery is risky and I also realize that I will have to be faithful with my bloodworkups and taking vitamins for the rest of my life. Even after reading all the great posts by successful DSers I still have that nagging fear that I will be the one that ends up spending my life in the bathroom too! But, hopefully I will learn what works and doesn't work foodwise after surgery.
I'm currently trying to find a surgeon within driving distance that is skilled in RNY to full DS revision. If you have any input, good or bad, about surgeons performing this surgery on the East Coast then please let me know! :-)
