I am a 46 year old woman who has been struggling with weight for my entire life.  But slowly over the years I went from being "overweight" to a weight that fit the definition of "morbidly obese".  I have been on diets since my teen years having short term successes but with every 10 lbs I'd lose I'd gain back 15.  A typical story...  I had borderline high blood pressure and high cholesteral for a number of years but it finally got to the point at the beginning of 2007 where my doctor suggested I start taking medication for both since I wasn't able to control either with diet and exercise.  I knew I had to do something but I just didn't know what or when.

I started paying attention to the successes of two people I knew who had the surgery- a co-worker's daughter and another woman at work that I saw occasionally.  It started me wondering if surgery could be the solution for me.  Then there was a billboard advertising bariatric surgery that I would pass everyday on my way home from work that seemed to be calling my name.  But it took a vacation to the beach in July, where I spent most of the time in the condo because I was too embarassed to come out in a bathing suit, to push me into action.  When I came back from that vacation I followed up with that billboard advertisement and signed up for a seminar on bariatric surgery thinking the lapband might be what I need.  After hearing the pros and cons of both I decided that the RNY method was better for me and everything fell into place with surgery scheduled for November 5th- my re-birthday!
