My first meeting with Dr Hess was in August of 2006. I have been thinking of having this surgery for the past 5 years but just wasn't sure. Then, my identical twinn sister had it done but never told me until she was about 2 months post op. I was shocked at her news and how she could keep it a secret but everyone has their own way of dealing with these kinds of decisions. She looks fantastic after loosing a considerable amount of weight. Despite complications she still claims she would do it all over again. I am not using her surgeon but found Dr Hess as a referral from my rheumatologist at BUMC whose opinion I value highly. I enlisted his help and he encouraged me to see Dr Hess. Upon meeting Dr Hess back in August I knew he was the surgeon for me. I faithfully followed all appointments scheduled and can't believe that in 2 weeks the surgery will really happen. I am so excited and yesterday at my pre-op appointment I asked Dr Hess "when will I get nervous?" I feel so at peace with this whole thing and really looking forward to living a life that I can be a part of 100% of each and every day. I even look forward to any struggles because I know with each struggle I will learn a little more about who I am and how strong I am because my plan is to make this the most incredible journey of my life.
