I have struggled with my weight ALL of my adult life. I have been Obese for the last 18-19 years of my life. Like many people I tried many different diets with much success at losing, but not at keeping it off. I have never been happy with my appearance and it has effected my confidence and self-esteem. It was not until December 2008 when I lost my job, that I took the time to truly evaluate my life. I realized that I have not taken care of "me." Now was my chance to really focus on my health and wellness. I made the decision to have WLS and went through the process in order to get approved. I started my journey in January 2009. I was denied in February, because my insurance company required me to partake in a 6-month doctor supervised weightloss program. So the day after I received my letter of denial, I went and saw my doctor. I started my weightloss program at 261 pounds with a BMI of 45.
After having been on the program for 6 months, I was not ready for surgery. This was the first time in my life that I finally realized that losing weight is a journey. It's not about going on a Diet, but a Lifestyle change and developing new healthier habits that will be sustaining for the rest of my life. These were going to be habits that I would have to practice and put forth a lot of cognitive effort. During the next 8 months I made many changes in my life that have helped get to where I am today. I am mentally and physically prepared to undergo the last change that will help me for the rest of my life . . . . WLS!!
