August 23, 2008 - 75lbs down since surgery 95 over all
Aug 23, 2008
Guess I'm not very good at blogging as its been several months. I've gotten myself and my eating under better control since May. I still haven't really gotten a regular exercise program but I try to take the long way at work whenever I need to go see a client.
August 27, 2008 is Mark & my 25th Wedding Anniversary. We went out to a very nice dinner tonight at Capital Grille and, as usual, I couldn't finish my food. Guess I get to have a Filet & Mushroom omlet for breakfast tomorrow!
Things here are same as usual. Work is work. Mark is back on days finally and has weekends off on this rotation - Yeah! I work Monday-Friday so its nice to have weekends with Mark finally. Mark is well and hopefully he'll get his diabetes under better control now that he's back on days. Otherwise he's fine.
Health wise I'm doing well. Since I've been behaving myself where food is concerned, I've managed to get off my insulin. Dr. also changed me to Janumet which is a combination of Januvia & Metformin (Glucophage). The Januvia has worked wonderfully for me. I encourage all diabetics to ask their Dr. about it. I'm anxious to see what my next A1C is - last time it was 6.2 which is getting very close to normal - which I think is under 6. Still need to have that hernia repaired but Dr. B wants me to be below 250 lbs so maybe early next year.
Well I guess that's all for now. Our best to everyone!

March 2, 2008 - 50 lbs down
Mar 02, 2008
Good Grief, I had no idea that it has been so long since I posted last. I'm still struggling to behave myself and get more exercise. Have had a cookie obsession for awhile now and that doesn't help any. I've made a vow to myself to start walking laps around the atrium at work - the ladies at AAA tell me that 10 laps = 1 mile. Maybe I can get my boss to go walk with me as I don't think that I can get any of the guys I work with to walk w/me! Our office is a bit heavy on the testosterone side with Lori and I being the only females.
I've been enjoying trying on smaller size clothes. I haven't purchased much because I'll hopefully be getting even smaller, but after a while the clothes I have are just too big and don't look right. I purchased a couple of shirts and a couple new pairs of pants. That wll keep me for awhile. Need to have Mark take tailor lessons so he's more comfortable taking in my clothes. The Tailor that I do go to charges apx. $8 a pant leg or sleeve and it doesn't take long for it to mount up.
I lifted a monitor at work a couple weeks ago and for a while there I thought Dr. Beltre would need to look at mending my hernia sooner rather than later, but it calmed down now. The "boys" have banned me from lifting anything heavy again. I know I shouldn't but I get tired of depending on them to come bail me out and lift things for me. I just want to do my job. Guess I might have to look into doing some strength training as I lose weight. I never have had much upper body strength.
Well that's about all from me. My Friend Judy Williams Cobb is having some severe health issues, so any and all prayers are appreciated. Hopefully I'll be able to call her in a couple of days and check on her. I'm hoping for the best, her daughter needs her.
Later,
Sue
January 20, 2007 - 47 pounds down
Jan 20, 2008
Hello Everyone,
Sorry that its been so long since I last posted but I really haven't had much to tell. After my 12/3 posting I got fed up with feeling so bad and got in an emergency visit with my PCP, Felix. Felix changed the stomach acid medication to Aciphex and that made all the difference in the world! I also was having problems with low blood pressure and Felix eliminated 1 BP med and cut the other in half. Within just a couple of days I felt like a different person between the two med changes.
The problem with feeling so much better is that one tends to eat things one is not supposed to eat! The holidays were pretty rough on the diet as there was a lot of goodies all over the place at work, plus those once a year treats you only get at Christmas. I even managed to temporarily gain back a couple of pounds but have gotten those back off now.
Another problem compounding the weight loss was the result of a regular visit to my endocrinologist. Dr. Bauer adjusted my diabetes medication removing the Metaglip which sent my sugars out of control again. It improved the level of something else in my urine, but messed up my sugars which had been getting steadily better. Dr. Bauer has now put me on another medication, Januvia. Its only been a couple of days so we'll see how that goes.
Anyway, I'm back on track now and behaving myself so hopefully the weight loss will also get back on track here shortly. Well not much else going on with me. Got to go feed the cats! Tata for now.
December 12, 2007 - Pictures
Dec 11, 2007
Here are some pictures from Mark's Christmas Party. Not a lot of difference but people say that they can start to see it in my face especially. I feel it in my clothes and these are a couple sizes smaller than I had been wearing. The pants are already too big and will need to have tucks taken in the waist.
I haven't lost more than a couple of pounds since my last posting. I think that I'm probably not getting enough protein and they say that it slows the loss. Don't know what else to do to get more protein since they don't want us to snack. I eat meat at all three meals and dairy for my snack. Guess I'll just have to keep working at it!
Love to all

December 3, 2007 - 41 pounds down!
Dec 03, 2007
My apologies to family and friends who have been checking my blog for updates. There really hasn't been much new to say so I've gotten lazy about putting updates out. Had my second follow up with the surgeon, Dr. Beltre, and he's pleased with how I'm doing. I'm still have problems with my stomach having to much acid to the point there it makes me nauceous but Dr. B. gave me yet another medication to take. We'll see how that goes.
Had some of my first beef a week or so ago - Roast which I cut up very small and put in lots of gravy. It was so good that I ate a little too much and that didn't go over well with my sleeve! Won't do that again!
I went shopping yesterday for something new to wear to Mark's Holiday Party for Reedy Creek. I've worn the same thing for the past two years so that was enough. I actually looked better in a couple sizes smaller than I was previously used to purchasing!! Yea! We'll get a picture taken at the party or we'll take one of ourselves and I'll post it in a couple of weeks. I don't really see the difference in myself, but others are starting too see it.
Well not much else to report. Thank you to everyone for your encouraging e-mails.

November 12, 2007 - 30 pounds down and counting!
Nov 12, 2007
Was a lazy lump this past weekend so I never did get a post written. On top of everything else I've managed to get a cold or something with congestion and coughing. If my stomach can survive all this coughing then Dr. B did a very good job!! So far so good. I'm finally starting to feel better, but now I've given it to poor Mark. He sounds terrible and even came home from work today - which he rarely ever does.
The Rx that Dr. B. gave me is working wonders on the stomach acid. I'm eating much better now. My sleeve likes scallops and is very happy after eating 3 oz of them! Mark hates the smell, but I guess he'll live! Had some turkey tonight, so far so good. Now I need to concentrate on getting the veggies back into the diet.
As of this morning I was down 30 lbs! I think I lost all of it from my hands and feet. My rings fall off my fingers and my shoes flop on my feet! I've had to start wearing socks to keep them on. Thought I had lost one of my favorite rings, but one of my co-workers found it in the office - Thanks David. I don't dare wear any of the others for fear of losing them and have had to resort to wearing my wedding rings on my middle finger so I don't lose them. I even pulled out a bra in a much smaller size and it fit just fine now. Cool!
Not much else going on. Will post again in about a week.

November 2, 2007 - First week back at work
Nov 01, 2007
Well my first week back at work as been pretty uneventful. My co-workers are keeping a good eye on me to be sure I don't lift anything or don't get too tired. They have all been really great and very understanding.
I've gotten a little frustrated this week and by Thursday was starting to wonder why I did this to myself! Having problems with too much acid in my stomach and finally called Dr. B's office. They called me in a Rx that seems to be helping, although I've only taken it twice so we'll see. Also frustrated with knowing what to eat in the pureed catetory. Probably still not getting enough protein, but I'm really trying. Also need to drink more, but the water just added to the acid problem. We'll see how it goes today.
Also having problems with feeling like things aren't going down smoothly at about the breast bone level aright about where one of my incisions are. The botton strap of my bra also hits about there and if I pull up on it things feel like they slide the rest of the way down. Told Dr. B's office about that also but they insist that the incision has nothing to do with swallowing. Maybe just coincidence. Yes, I'm sitting up straight as I can!
But over all things are going okay. Down 22 lbs already and walking is starting to become a bit easier. The walk from the parking lot to the office wasn't as bad as I had feared and only at night when I'm pretty tired does it seem longer!
Well guess I'd better get to work. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.

October 27, 2007 - First Group Meeting
Oct 27, 2007
Today I attended my first Group Support Meeting. Because of Halloween Dr. Beltre's meeting on 10/31 was apparently cancelled so I went ahead and went to Dr. Harold's Meeting at Health Central Hospital.
We met with Nutritionist Meredith Luce and discussed what to look for, or rather look out for, on food labels. Also discussed some tension band exercises and then some of our individual food problems that we might be having. It was pretty interesting. At the end of the meeting we all joined Dr. Harold in a pre-surgery info session.
Eating is going okay. Not sure that I'm getting enough protein and need to concentrate more on that part. Need to find some meat that I can "puree". One of the ladies at the group session spoke about Taliapia fish that was pretty good. I've had it before and the way she fixes it is very simple so I'll try to get some tomorrow and give that a try. Meredith said that as long as I flake it every fine it would be considered puree.
Only problem that I'm having is that due to the puree my bowel movements are like diarrhea and sometimes they come on pretty quick. If anyone has some advice about that, please let me know. Still planning to go back to work on Monday and fortunately the bathroom isn't too far, but far enough!
Slept fairly comfortably w/o pain medication of any kind last night. Had to get up around 3am to go to the bathroom, but otherwise it was okay. Just didn't want to get up at 8am when I should have in order to get to Group on time. I have to remember that I have to do Breakfast before leaving the house and I'm not used to that part. Need to make a food plan for work next week so I can take a day or two at a time into the office as we're not supposed to carry or lift too much.
My Mom and my Mother-in-law visited this afternoon and that was very nice. Jean (m-in-law) hadn't seen any of our renovations that we've made over the past year so she and Mark toured the kitchen and bathrooms. It was nice to see them both. Luckily they live fairly close to each other so they drove down together to our house. Its not that far, but pretty much from one end of the Orlando Metro area to the other.
I'm feeling pretty good. Still tender in some spots on my belly, especially on the left still. But getting better each day.
Guess that's pretty much all for now.

October 25, 2007 - The rest of my life
Oct 25, 2007
Dr. Beltre finally appeared a bit after 1pm on Day 2 and asked if I wanted to go home - YES! I was finally released around 5pm just in time for rush hour traffic. Luckily we must have been just ahead of it as the ride home was fairly short although it seemed to take forever to me! Never so glad to see home in my whole life.
I've been sticking to the directions for eating. Today will be my first day on puree so if any one has some tips & tricks about yummy puree, be sure to send them my way!
Finally got a little more sleep last night with the help of the drugs, slept a couple hours in the bed on my right side, still too uncomfortable on my left side. Got up for a couple more hours in the chair then back to the bed again. Managed to keep the cats off me last night which helped - they weren't very happy about it though.
Guess I need to get up and walk some more, still worried about the walk from the parking lot to the office on Monday, its pretty long. Unfortunately there's no way that I know of to shorten it.
Overall I'm feeling better today but still some discomfort through the abdominal area, but its getting better. They must have had tubes down my nose during the surgery as my sinuses are still messed up and I've pulled more blood out of them than anything else.
Well guess that's enough grossness for today. Anyone has any advise about pureeing things or any helpful words, I'm all ears. Thanks
Sue
