Harvey Sugerman

"Initial consultation 10-20-00. I had a very good impression of Dr. Sugarman. His staff was warm and receptive to my needs. Dr. Sugarman was very thorough in reviewing my medical history. He was up front on the fact that CIGNA would likely deny my surgery which it did 8 days later. His staff has directed me to an insurance company that they have been successful in getting the surgery covered. I was able to make the change easily as open enrollment is now year round with my company. Dr. Sugarman discussed with me the laproscopic procedure that I was very interest in for me. He said I was a good candidate for it but emphasized the additional risks in some areas. My only recommendation is to check with the staff on what information is needed (specific medical records) as Dr. Sugarman did not seem to be well versed in the required documentation that CIGNA wanted with their referral letter. His staff, however, knew exactly what was needed. In all honesty, I prefer that the doctor stick with doctoring and the staff with the paperwork details so this was not a big issue, just something to be aware of. Update 3-31-01. I attended a few of his support group meetings. They have been very informative. I have met people in all stages (considering surgery, pre-op, and post op). I have found his staff to be exceptionally caring and supportive to the patient, as a person and not just as a gastric bypass patient. I have discussed things totally unrelated to the surgery with his nurse, Jill. She not only listened, but cared as she saw me as a person and considered my life as a whole important and mot just my weight issues. The after care is critical to this team of doctors and their staff. There is teaching on how to make this the successful tool that it can be and education on what it takes for you to sabatoge the surgical efforts. I would highly recommend Dr. Sugarman and his team of terrific medical personnel."

Andrea Pozez

"I began the plastic surgery process in January 2002. I was 175 at the time with a goal weight of 140. Dr. Pozez refused to discuss the surgical procedure with me until I was under 150. She knew I was planning a wedding for 11-1-02 and that having the surgery and recovery in advance of that was important. A May appointment was scheduled and I weighed in at 148 but had to starve myself to be at that weight. In January she had promised me a July date. In May, her first available date was August 30. That was my first clue that she really did not have a clear handle on the number of patients she was serving. In June I became ill, I advised her of the medical situation and provided medical records to show full recovery. At my July 10, 2002 pre op appointment, (My surgery was moved up to 8-1-02) she announced that she cancelled my surgery. She followed her statement with a number of inconsistancies. She said she would consider surgery in September but that my health was more important. Again, I rescheduled for September and found no dates available. It was appearant to me that her schedule was too cumbersome for her and her manner of walking in and cancelling my surgery was unacceptable to me. Additionally, she made no effort to work with my insurance for approval. There were so many contridictions in what she told me as a plastic surgeon, my medical doctors statements, and the insurance companies documentation that I lost all faith in Dr. Pozez as a professional and would not allow her to perform surgery on my body. I consulted with another plastic surgeon a few days later, explained the medical issues that happened in June and was scheduled for surgery 3 weeks later. All went well and I do not feel my health was compromised in any way by the surgeon I selected."

Kenneth Olshansky

"I had been working with a different Plastic Surgeon for 7 months prior to losing faith and searching for someone else. I was recommended to Dr. Olshansky by a number of people and made an appointment to see him. I was impressed from the moment he extended his hand to welcome me and my fiancee. He was honest, he did not tell me exactly what I wanted to hear but he did tell me what I needed to hear. Beyond his incredible manner, I was also impressed with his office art work. Come to find out, they were all photographs take by Dr. Olshansky. He has an eye that captured the expressions of people in the most amazing ways. This confirmed my faith in his ability to take what I described for my body and his ability to see it happen."
