I am just like all of these other people. Been overweight my entire life. I've tried a zillion diets only to gain it back (if I even lost any) and then some. I have PCOS, which doesn't help. But, someday, I would like to have a baby and I cannot do that right now.
Here is a photo of my hubband and me
02-18-06 Attended my first Lap Band Seminar where they made my first appointment to see Dr. Schmitt. I will see him on the 27th and go from there. I will be self-paying, as my husband's insurance is very straightforward in that they will not pay for anything obesity related. Right now, I don't really care. I'm excited to have found something that has worked for so many people already. I'm just waiting my turn for it to happen to me. :)
02-27-06 Went to my consult with Dr. Schmitt. Got my chest x-ray and blood work done. Am supposed to find out in the next couple of days WHEN my surgery will be. :)
03-17-06 Well, they called while I was in the Bahamas. I'm scheduled for Lap Band surgery April 24, 2006. I'm so excited.
I am currently working on a list of things I want to or will be able to do once I've lost weight:
1. Paint my toenails all by myself!!
2. Ride rollercoasters!
3. Fasten the seatbelt in my husband's car (apparently his car was made for skinny people as it is the only one I have ever experienced a problem with.)Accomplished!!
4. Buy clothes somewhere other than Just My Size and Lane Bryant.
5. Fit comfortably into the theater seats.
6. Cross my legs.
7. Have a baby.
8. Buy jewelry that doesn't have to be sized before I can wear it.
9. Eat smaller portions without being hungry half an hour later - or falling asleep to a growling stomach. Accomplished!!
10. Use only one pillow at night.
11. Have a lap.
12. Feel comfortable in crowds - I've always been open and talkative with people, but have issues with how I look.
13. Wear strappy shoes.
14. Stand for longer periods of time without having to lean.
15. No longer be the fattest person in my family!
04-21-06 Well, I just got word from the Hospital. I have to be there by 5:15am 04-24-06 for my surgery. Just a little over 48 hours now and I'll be joining the "losers" club!
04-24-06 (3:41pm) I am home. Been home for about an hour now and feeling pretty alright; minus the dreaded gas everyone has mentioned in their posts as being a nuisance! The surgery went very well. The nurses and aids said I was doing wonderfully and that I could go home. So, I left! Yay me! I go back next Monday to have the staples removed. Doing the breathing treatments every two hours as prescribed. Got sent home with a bunch of those plastic pillows. I don't care if they are plastic! I love pillows. Well, I'm going to get to updating everything else. I wanted to say thank you to everyone for keeping me in their prayers and thinking about me this morning. I also want to say that the staff at MCE in Birmingham were exceptional! Too bad it's 2 hours away, or I'd go there for every reason I need to go to a hospital. Proud to be on the losing side, finally.
04-28-06 Well, I'm down 14lbs already. I know it's probably mostly water weight, but after the water comes the fat!!! Yay!!
05-03-06 Well, I weighed in on Monday (the 1st) and I was down 20lbs. I started taking my Provera that night (so I could make my body have AF. So, I've been stuck ever since. Provera makes me gain. At least I haven't done that - I've just not lost!
05-08-06 I am exactly two weeks out and down 22lbs already. (Two more days of Provera!)
05-15-06 Ok, so the last two days of last week, the two days just after the last Provera pill had me up two pounds. BUT, I am down 4 this morning, so that puts me at exactly 25lbs in three weeks. I'm happy and very satisfied with my band.
05-26-06 Well, three more pounds down, for a total of 28. I have no restriction right now, so I'm doing everything in my power to eat properly. I'm proud of what I've lost so far, so it's wonderful! I love my band.
06-06-06 Got my first fill today. As of yesterday, my six week point, I have lost 30lbs
06-30-06 Finally, I'm down 40lbs!! Less than 10 weeks, so at the current rate of loss I'm at just over 4lbs per week. I can deal with that. Let's just hope it stays that way! My next fill is scheduled for July 18th.
07-18-06 Went for my second fill. Dr. Schmitt was very pleased with my progress as I was down 43lbs as of this appointment. It made me feel great to finally have a doctor not make me feel like poop about my weight; instead, he was congratulatory on my efforts.
07-23-06 As of my last weigh-in, I was down 48lbs. Can wait to be back under 300. Only 8 more pounds to go!!!
09-04-06 Today is 19 weeks since my surgery. I've lost 63lbs with two fills. I have another fill scheduled for Sept 26th. Hopefully, that fill will be the "sweet spot" fill as I am still able to eat more than I should be eating. We'll see. Will post another picture when I get to 75lbs.
10-16-06 I am finally down 70lbs!!! In less than 6 months. Who could complain at that!?!?!?! I'm pleased and very happy with my progress as well as with the way that I feel. I've had 3 fills putting me at 2cc in a 4cc band. I go back for my next fill on Nov. 7th. Looking forward to making this fat go away even quicker. But, what I've lost so far is nothing to sneeze at! Will post a new picture in 5 more pounds!
11-09-06 I had my 4th fill on Tuesday. I am finally at restriction or my "sweet spot", I believe. I can definitely tell the difference this time and the amount of food I am able to eat comfortably fits within the specs of this band. I have lost 82lbs in less than 7 months and couldn't be more thrilled. Today I weigh 274lbs. I can say I am nothing more than a happy camper right now! Good luck to those beginning and enduring this journey!
