Almost 5 months

May 02, 2009

I have lost 44 according to the ticker. But if I go according to my highest weight I will have lost 45-45 pounds. I also lose more weight at the doctors office scale. The diet part is the easy part. I only have cut down of carbs. The rest I eat, but small portions and make sure I eat more protein than before. I really have not had any problems eating anything. I have had several episodes in which I thought something was going to get stuck. Another problem I have had is exercise. I did well for a while. I have been having problems with allergies, which causes post nasal drip, causing chest congestion. This makes it difficult for me to breath. I hope this clears up soon. Other things have also been making it difficult to exercise as well. Other than that Only 2 time a case of serious case of head hunger. Ate a good meal, but within 2 hours still felt very hungry.

12 days after

Dec 20, 2008

Well its 12 days later. Worst part was the gas, pain was not too bad. I did and do get tired easily, but each day gets better. Dr. Pohl said he had some difficulty with the surgery. He said I had a larger liver. I wonder if it is due to all my medications. Image if I had not done a 3 week pre op diet to shrink my diet. Then 3 days after surgery I had an episode in which I got very dizzy and almost collapsed in the bathroom. Just had more fluids and broth and felt better. Stayed at my parents for about a week. I had to take an extra day off from work. Difficult part is getting my protein in. Don't feel hungry most of the time. Gets boring eating eggs and cottage cheese, not my favorite. Have issues with food textures in my mouth. Would like to be able to have real protein at one point like meat or chicken. Also I have been finding it difficult getting liquids in. I loved drinking water before. That is all I drank before. I just can't get anything in anymore. I am down 21 pounds, 14.5 pre- op.

Day before surgery

Dec 07, 2008

Well, it is the day before surgery. I feel very calm and wonder if this is normal. Wonder if I will get nervous once I get to the hospital. Did very well on the pre- op diet. I lost 14.5 pounds. Was hungry the last 3-4 days only. Told liquids only diet for today. Have to get things ready to go to my parents house. Will recuperate at their house for a few days. Have noticed with the weight loss the back pain is not as bad. Do have some of the pain from the medical procedure gone wrong and sciatic pain, but I can tolerate it. I am able to walk in the stores for longer period of times. Have a little more energy. Oddly enough people have noticed the weight loss in my face. I feel I noticed in my legs, swelling has gone done. Well next time I update will be after surgery.

Almost time.

I had my pre op testing on 11/24/2008. I am used to having a lot of lab work, xrays, etc. due to my health history. I was not necessarily nervous, but it felt so surreal. It hit me that I was soon going to have surgery and I was having my lab work done in the surgery recovery room. Getting my surgery time, what medications to take made it so final. Wow, it is finally going to happen. I have been on my liquid diet for a week and a half, not bad so far. My 2 cravings have been a steak sandwich and cheese and crackers. Have not cheated. Have mainly had healthy choice dinners and salads as my only allowed meal. I lost 7 pounds m first week. Has been hard to exercise. Due to the weather changes, my arthritis and sciatic pain has been bad. On good days I move around as much as possible. Thanksgiving is tomorrow turkey and vegetables for me.

Got a date.

I saw the surgeon on 10/27/08. Took my mother so she can ask questions. Both parents are against the surgery. They are aware of the potential complications, including death. I have explained to them that I feel that lap band surgery is the least invasive. I feel the most comfortable with this option. The other option is continue gaining weight, have no life or die. Well I received all my pre-op instructions during the appointment. I was told I will get a call with 3 dates. Well I thought it would take at least a few days or weeks. I was so excited, I was called the next after noon. December 8th. I have to do a liquid diet for 3 weeks to shrink my liver. He usually does this for 2 weeks, lucky for me I will do mine for 3 weeks. Then the following week I will have lab work and have pre admission testing. Those who I have told ask if I am scared. I tell them no. I am excited. I want to get started with this journey in my life. Pretty much lost my thirties being sick all the time. I want to live a healthier life.
