Like everyone else, I've been a big girl all my life.  When I was about 7 I remember my father singing "I don't want her, you can have her.  She's too fat for me...."

When my parents divorced, I was 7 and we moved down the street from a local ice cream place, The Milky Way.  For $0.26 you could get a cup of ice cream.  Through grade school I was called Hippo Hips and all the other nick names we've been called.  Always too fat to play on the neighbors swingsets,  or ride their big wheel (exceeded the max weight).  I weighed 71 lbs in 1st grade and remember my other all time low weight in high school of 184 lbs.

I weighed 225lbs when I got pregnant, delivered at 250.  Got down to 215 after a divorce and used Jenny Craig.  Went on a vegitable soup diet after the death of my cousin and lost about 20 lbs.  But ice cream has always been my friend.  My brother still remembers we couldn't keep ice cream in the house for more than a week.

I've lost 40lbs on Weight Watcher but couldn't get past my emotional eating after my boyfriend of over 2 yrs moved out of state.  I got down to 225lbs.  I'm back up to 263 and fitting into my old clothes.  I've always been afraid to get rid of most of my clothes because of fluctuations.  Now I just haul them around in many many storage bins.

I began checking into surgery when I was in Indiana in November of 2008.  Went to the seminars, started the paperwork.  I had been requesting a transfer at work for about 1.5 yrs to move to Colorado.  I had hoped to work it out with my ex-boyfriend.....I've given up on working that out.  My daughter and I moved to Colorado and found there are not many fat people here.  Everyone is really into the healthy lifestyle and outdoor activities.  The perfect place to get healthy and start fresh without knowing where all the pizza places are, the best Chinese takeout, or local Mexican food.  I found a hospital and surgeon my insurance would cover, then found a PCP who is a good fit for my goal of WLS.  I've been going to the monthly weigh ins and have been working on getting everything in order by the end of the 6 months of Dr visits.

My last of the 6 appt will be in July.  I will have had my nutrition class completed, my psych evalutation and have everything faxed to the surgeons office after the 6th visit.  Luckily, my PCP is just on a different floor of the surgeon and they all know each other.  There will be a 30-45 day turn around time of sending all the paperwork in to the insurance and getting a date scheduled.  I am hoping to have surgery in August 2009.  Keep your fingers crossed!
