Back to the new world

Apr 19, 2010

It is the first time I log in after surgery. So I have a lot to catch up :). Let’s take them one at a time:
1. Surgery- it was very ok, as I understood the total surgery time was 1 hour and 15 minutes. They performed a colecistectomy (which is gallbladder removal) and a VSG. I woke up in the intensive care unit, with my mom and husband close by. What amazed me is the position in which they perform the surgery, which is half up, I would say at 70 degrees from the laying down position
2. ICU- I stayed there over the night and they took good care of me. What I can say is that felt a little nauseous at times, but it disappeared fast as I was on IV line all the tine, and they were taking very good care of us.
3. Hospitalization- second day after surgery they too k me back to the salon and asked me to get up and walk....it was ok, but still felt dizzy after 4 days of eating nothing than soup and water. Getting up was harder since the stitches hurt. Also it was the worse day, since I guess the general effect of anesthesia wear off and everything hurt a bit. But it was manageable and the second day they let me out. Conditions to be let out home: drink at least 100 ml of liquids, be able to walk and have the first poo
4. Days after- 3rd day after surgery was a little hard, since I had to drink on my own and couldn’t very well, and was also afraid not to drink too much and throw up....but in the next day was easier and easier..and so on.....I have used the special protein diet I bought for about 3 days. The rest unfortunately I cannot drink cause they have such a yak taste....I prefer my mother's soup and diet drinking yogurt.

The doctor insists that I should drink at least 1.5 l each day....so I am trying. Still on anticoagulant, which I make myself in the evening in my belly...lol..it was hard the first time, now I feel comfortable about pushing a needle in my own body.

Don’t know what can I tell you else. I have lost 7 kg's which is about 15 pounds, and haven’t lost weight in the last days. The doctor said don’t make a fixation on the scale, you will lose weight in time. Also he says in the first month the weight loss is due to losing liquids and proteins, so high concentration proteins are very good not to lose from the muscles.

I am very ok, 6th day after surgery I went shopping for 2 hours and Hard Rock cafe for another 2 in the evening. 7th day walked in the park and drove, and now I am very ok, can stay at the computer all day, but from time to time my belly contracts and  I feel I need to lay down for a while. Will stay home another week before going back to work.

Kisses....I am very happy I did this and cannot wait to see the results....

1 day to go

Apr 10, 2010

1 day to go! I cant believe time has fled so fast. Of course I am jumpy and very anxious, and probably like everybody else wondering if I made the right decision. Well....we will soon find out :).
2 days ago went to hospital for final tests, and yesterday to a seminar the doctor organized for future patients, so I understood once more what is going to happen.

Very interesting is the fact that the stomach pouch that will be left will stabilize in the next 6 to 12 months. So it is imperiously important for the rest of my life not to force it, not to cheat, or else it will get to a shape which will allow more eating and I will be back from where I started.

They say that in
Romania, the efficiency of RNY is about 80% of the needed weight loss, while the VSG is about 70%. And that it is extremely important not to cheat. I saw a lot of ex patients looking fabulous after just 1 year, but they have been refraining themselves from any crappy food, just eating what they are supposed to.

The preop preparation is not very nice, lol...I will have to eat a lot of laxatives and have some shots of anticoagulant before. Ah.. I forgot, only drinking liquids since yesterday, today as well, no sugar..so water, soup, tea etc......

Tomorrow at this hour I will probably be out of surgery, since it's supposed to start at 7 and to last about 1.5 hours if everything is ok.

See you all after! God help us all!!

5 days to go

Apr 07, 2010

5 days to go...still having mixed emotions. If I think more about it, I realize that I have no fear regarding the surgery itself, but about the result and the impact it will have on my afterwards life.

More than anything I want it to work and to be able to see results. Thank you all for your posts, seeing how things go really helped me a lot in settling up emotions, in keeping my determination and hope.

So far, now I know that tomorrow will have to go in for the last minute tests, and probably would be the last day that I eat solid stuff until some time..........and by the way....I had to go last evening and had some chinese stuff...I know its not ok, but thinking about the fact that I might never be able to taste it again made me sad..so I had to do it.

Wish me luck!!!!

So finally...the surgery date is set

Apr 05, 2010

After coquetting with this for a couple of years now, it seems the ball is rocking down the alley.....so my VSG will take place on Monday the 12th. On Friday I am supposed to go to the hospital for final investigations and discussions with the ICU specialist and surgeon.
I am experiencing mixed emotions. It is quite an important decision and I know my life is about to change for as long as I live. In a way this sounds depressing, on the other hand picturing myself looking gorgeous and fit in all kind of nice and sexy outfits motivates me to go on.
I wish I had enough ambition to do this without surgery.....but since in a long tie I found out that I cannot keep up with it for a long time, here we go.
Cant wait to get this done with and start my new life. It will be quite a journey.....thank you all for being here and sharing your experience. ..this has helped me reach the final decision and will help me go on.
