What a year
Dec 28, 2007
Wow - it's been a year since my surgery. I can hardly believe it. I feel great - wonderful - no problems to date (knock on wood).... 113lbs gone - 25lbs to go. Seems like I am struggling with these last 25lbs - but I am determined to get them off. It's a new year - I am going to re-group and set new goals....have a plan - a focal point - rather than aim along blindlessly. My New Years Goal will be to increase my workouts and watch those carbs.....Happy New Year!

It has been a while since I have posted. I am doing really well. I still can't believe that I was finally approved and my surgery is done and over with. I have lost 50lbs to date. My energy level is much better. I am no longer taking high blood pressure medicine.
I have been going to the gym about 4-5 days a week. I really enjoy that .....I have inspired a group of co-workers to get in shape too ...so we all meet up at the gym after work and we work out as well as have social hour at the same time.
I almost backed out of my decision to have this surgery due to fear, but I am not very glad that I did not. My feet are no longer swelling, and all around I FEEL so much better. Before I could not even bend over to tie my tennis shoes....and it was very difficult to try and heft my leg up to get them tied. Now no problem at all.
I have not gotten sick from anything to date...or had any problems to date (knock on wood). I was concerned about what to use for birth control. My surgeon said to use whatever I wanted...including the pill. I was a little skeptical about that...so I opted for the Mirena IUD and had that put in yesterday. I think that was about as bad as the surgery....but not too bad....I say that because my surgery really was not that bad at all.
I feel like my weight loss is a little slow....but I am not complaining and will just go with the flow of my body. My PCP says I am doing fine and it is better for me and my body for it to come off slower. My surgeon on the other hand acts like we are in a marathon and always wants another 30-40 lbs gone by next visit or he will not be happy. I have learned to not stress over him anymore because I can only do what I can and nothing more. ....and as long as I am doing everything right...well then what more can I do....RIGHT?
Well have a good day....just wanted to give an update. I will post new pics soon.

high liver function test
Oct 15, 2006
Recently the last few months my liver funtion test (AST) has been really high...like 90 (I guess it is supposed to be below 40 according to my dr.).
She tested me for hepatitis - but that was negative. She is sending me to a GI dr. for futher liver testing. She is guessing that is could be caused by fatty liver. Like fatty liver disease.
1. Can this keep me from having the surgery or being approved
OR
2. Would it be an additional co-morbidity that can be used as a reason for WLS to be approved?? (my insurance co is giving me a hard time and I am on my 1st appeal)..
AND does any know what would cause a high liver function result?
she re-tested it twice and it was still high.
Thanks
