Bitter sweet?

Aug 22, 2011

I got a phone call today from my surgeon's office. I didn't actually make it to the phone in time, so it went to voice mail. I was super nervous because I just finished all my pre-op testing and they had submitted my request in for the DS last week.

So I dial up my voice mail and this is what I get (this is the gist, I don't want to have to quote her verbatim)

Hello, I'm calling from Dr. Srikanth's office to inform you about news I have just received from your insurance company case manager. Unfortunately, because you had a starting BMI under 50, you were denied for the Duodenal switch *dies inside*

by this time my heart just sunk into my guts and I'm stressing out.

...(back to the message) "However, as of June 1st 2011, your insurance now covers the sleeve gastrectomy, and the case manager believes that you will qualify for that, without any issue, so please call me back so we can discuss if you would like to have me re-submit your paperwork for the Sleeve instead."

...

um... I'm not sure how I feel at the moment. I really wanted the Sleeve originally, but when I found out that my insurance company didn't cover it, I nerd raged a bit but then decided I would go with the DS instead. For the past year I have been reading up on the switch, and ready-ing myself with knowledge about supplements and different facts and information about living with the DS. And became favorable to the DS.

So. I'm not quite sure how I'm feeling right now.
