My name is Sue and I live in an Indianapolis suburb. I just turned 60 and have decided that I need to go for it! I have been struggling with my weight since I was 25. I was able to keep my weight in the overweight category until about ten years ago.

In about 1995, I began to hurt all over and feel extremely fatigued....I couldn't sleep at night due to the pulsating pain emanating from my joints. I was in such pain that I could barely crawl up the stairs. I couldn't concentrate. I even had to leave my job I was feeling so bad. A year later, I had gained 50 lbs.(eating for energy?) and was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I started fighting the Fibro the day after diagnosis at water aerobics classes which I still faithfully attend. Later on, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Thanks to a wellness doctor, I learned that the Fibro was likely induced by mercury poisoning! I started feeling much better after the mercury was cleansed from my system. Today I am feeling much better but of course the weight stuck. I have lost and regained 20 lbs several times since then. I now have a BMI of 36.

The good news is that I am feeling better than I have for years. However my self esteem has greatly suffered from this weight struggle. I am READY to move on with this next step. After a year's worth of research, I have decided to have the VSG. The VSG forum has led me to this alternative. I have been heavily "lurking" on the forum over the past six weeks and am ready to join in! Thanks in particular to Jane H. for her kind and informative emails. I am pretty certain I will be having Dr. Joya perform the surgery as it will not be covered by insurance.
