Well, my weight-loss story is like most people's. I have been overweight most of my life. The earliest I can remember actually worrying about it was in junior high when we had to get dressed in a big locker room after gym class. Ever since, my size has *always* been in the back of my mind. I was always the biggest person in my groups of friends, and I always feel like I'm the biggest person in the room. In my senior year of high school, I passed the 200 mark, and in college was the first time I actively tried to loose weight, but had no success. I got pregnant at 21, had a relatively good pregnancy and a wonderful, healthy baby boy. But ever since then, over the last five years, my health has been in a downward spiral. I have had several surgeries over the last five years: a c-section, my gallbladder was removed, a full hysterectomy, and a tonsillectomy. I finally got good health insurance a couple of years ago and was diagnosed with sleep apnea in January 2007, and I was diagnosed with GERD in early 2009. I have tried so many diets ... Atkins, L.A. weight loss, weight watchers, just to name a few. Then, when talking with my GERD doctor about my surgical options for my hiatal hernia, we started talking about the lapband and RNY. Soon after we started talking about those options, we moved to a different state (my husband joined the military), so I have been doing all the research on my own for the past eight or nine months. After my researching and talking with people in the medical field whose opinions I trust, I have decided to go with the laproscopic RNY. So ... I guess I'm off on a big journey now! I have been looking around this site for a couple of months now, and it seems like this is going to be a wonderful place to find some support, so I look forward to learning and growing (and hopefully LOSING!!!) through this process.
