I am 49 years old.  I stand at 5'8' and currently weigh 263 lbs.  I have successfully met the requirements to be covered by my insurance for my RNY.  Now I am currently waiting to get word on when I begin my 2-week pre-op for my surgery, which should be any day now.  My goal weight is 185. That said, let me add that, along with my weight issues, I am pre-diabetic, I have GERD, sleep apnea (for which I have already had surgery to help with the severeness of my apnea), I have four bulging/herniated discs for which I suffer thru pain with almost daily, and I am pre-hypertension.  I'm not one who usually asks for help or support, but I've decided to take that step with the encouragement of my wife.  Honestly, I don't know what to say.  If asked what my reason is for going thru my surgery, I would say that my number one reason is my kids.  I have 4-year-old twins (boy/girl) and a 9-year-old daughter who need me.  I'll be 50 years old in a few months and I know that I need to do what I can to take care of myself and live as long as I can for my kids.  I have struggled with weight-loss because of some of my health issues.  For example, I am often fatigued because my body has struggled with producing testosterone, so being active has been difficult for me.  Needless to say, the extra weight I currently have hasn't made it easy.  I understand that this will be a major life change for me.  I am prepared to take that step and very much look forward to it.   My desire here is to meet others who are going thru this process and who have been thru it.  I look forward to guidance and feedback from anyone willing to offer it.  Eventually I will post before and after photos.  Thanks to everyone reading this and to those who choose to respond.
