Getting to my goal

Jan 20, 2009

It's been a little while since I update my blog.  Things are going well.  I'm down to 233 with about 15 more pounds to go.  I had a BMI test done and my overall muscle mass is 188 lbs and I am currently at 22% body fat.  I've been at the gym everyday doing cardio and lifting and I'm starting to notice my muscle tone.  My legs are so much smaller but very defined as well as my upper body.  The only problem is my stomach, with the extra skin.  I'm going to wait another year and see where I'm at before I think about surgery.

For those who are reading this, yes It can be done with hard work and dedication.

Spring has Sprung

May 02, 2008

Things are getting a little greenier around here in CT with the weather changing.  We'll the weight loss is going steady about 1 - 2 lbs a week.  I had my second fill last week.  But when I went  to the doctor the first time she put too much in and I was unable to drink water before leaving her office.  So she took some out and I have 1 1/2 cc in the band and it is working fine.  Definately can feel it now, so I got to be extra careful about chewing food enough or up it comes.  Still working out strong and my pants are 2 sizes too big so in the fall I have to go for a new wardrobe.  My shirt was a 3x but today I'm getting into an XL which is a good thing so I can go anywhere to shop.  Everyone is noticing how much weight I lost which is a nice thing.  So for those who are thinking about having the surgery, it works as long as you put your time in.  You need to work out either go for a walk, go to the gym, do a Romba class, something to get your body moving.  You need to target the areas that has the most weight on it.  Mine was the abs so I'm doing 300 crunches a day after my 40 minute stint of cardio.  So my weight loss since I started is currently 55 lbs.

March madness

Mar 03, 2008

It's been a little while since my last post.  Things are doing good, still losing weight about 1 - 2 lbs a week.  I'm definately able to eat more than I should so I've got to becareful.  My weight lost did stop for a little while, I think I wasn't eating enough and was eating the same things for breakfast and lunch.  Protein shake and a can of tuna, boring but it was easy to prepare.   Going for a fill this week, my wife had her last week and eating has been hard for her.  I had the same issues, where if I ate too fast or too much at one time, up it comes.  My clothes are getting big, but I'm going to hold off until on buying anything new until the fall, spring and summer is coming and I'll be in shorts if the temps stay above 60.  Working out has been going good, I haven't worked on my abs but everything else is getting leaner.  People are noticing the weight loss, which is nice to hear.  Still it's a lot of work so don't be fooled, you got to be on your game all the time.  The band is only a tool and it works!!  I'll check back when I get into the 250's.

1 week Post Op

Jan 24, 2008

Had my first post op checkup today and things are moving ahead as planned.  I can start on pureed foods and mashed potato's, can't waite.  Also, I can go back to the gym, so Monday it's back to my favorite machine the Olipitical.   I'll do 45 minutes of cardio for now and free weights for my arms, that's what the doctor ordered.  I've lost 14lbs in one week, probably because I was only consuming 500 calories a day.  Next week the weight loss will be slower because I'll be consuming more calories but I hope with working out I can lost another 10 lbs.  I was able to catch for my daughter the other night , so things are getting better.

It's done!

Jan 18, 2008

Well Wednesday the 16th I got the band installed it was done in one day at St Ray's.  Dr Barajas did a good job she said everything went very well.  I didn't take any pain meds because I was nauseaous (sp) but I didn't need it anyway.  I lost 8 lbs in 2 days only because i'm only eating around 500 calories a day and I'm not hungry!  Took a shower this morning and I felt better after that.  I was able to sleep on my side in my own bed, that was big!  The protein shake I liked before the sugery is not tasting so good, probably because of the anastasia.  So I need to search for another.  I have been coughing a little too which is painful on my incessions.   Everyday I'm feeling stronger and things are getting back to normal.  My wife just start Stage 4 (pureed food) and she is doing very well.

Getting Close

Nov 14, 2007

11/15/07
It's been a couple months since my last entry.  I've been to 4 meetings on what to expect when I get the Lap Band and how my body and mind is going to change.  I did the 5 day Kiosk Diet with no problem the first day was the hardest but after that you don't feel hungry and the time passes by.  If I can do that then I know I can lose the weight.  I just finished my Pysch evaluation on Tuesday and the doc said he would like to clone me because I have no ailments and would be a good mold except for the weight issue. I started back to the gym last week doing 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training 5 days a week.  I am doing my old body building routine that a former Mr. Connecticut gave to me.  I'm only using litle weights doing a 3 sets of 15 reps.  The routine is chest and biceps 1 day, shoulders and traps and triceps day 2, legs day 3, back and stomach day 4, and then back to day 1 again.  I'm pretty sore but already notice I lost 3 pounds.  My last meeting with my wife is on 11/28/07 for the post op diet and then after that my file gets sent to the insurance company for approval (I hope).  I would like to have the band installed the week after Christmas as a present to myself.  I'll keep you updated when I hear from the insurance company Oxford Health.
