VGS ~ 6/29/09
Jul 05, 2009
I had VSG and hiatal hernia repair on June 29th.
I had some problems keeping my PB stabilized so I had quite a bit of pain immediately following surgery. I have had high BP for the last 5 or 6 years and for some reason mine bottomed out during surgery. I was not able to receive pain meds till my BP stabilized. Dr. Walton stopped by to see me a few hours after surgery and authorized 1/2 dose of dillaud. It helped some and I was able to get up and walk. The walking increased my PB enough that I was able to receive the rest of the pain meds. After getting the pain under control I slept off and on most of the day and the next morning. In between sleeping I would get up and walk just to make certain that my BP stayed up. I didn't want to be without meds again.
I was able to leave the hospital the next afternoon. I don't really remember much of that 2nd day. I took the pain meds ever 6 hours as prescribed, wheather I needed it or not. Since then, I have felt pretty good for the most part. No problems other than getting in the fluid. I have found that I can't drink cold liquids. It causes my stomach to like draw up or something and it is painful for a few seconds. So I have really stuck with room temperature water and warm broth with an occassional sugar free jello.
I am just 6 days out and alrasdy getting bored with clear liquids and I'm not even half way through the 2 weeks yet.
I've noticed that several people here on OH started soft foods just days after surgery. But, my surgeon requires clear liquids for the first 2 weeks.
