2 mths 6 days update - over half way ----onederland--46LBS gone

Jun 15, 2011

So where do I start.??????????????????? It seem like the last month went by very fast. I am feeling too great and the compliments are unbearable now. I am proud to say I am 199lbs and way over my half way point. 47lbs lost.

I realized that the surgery is definitely not a quick fix. It has helped me drop the weight quickly but I believe 60 percent is also about how I exercise. I have been working out twice a day for six days. I typically run outside at least 4 times a week 6 miles a day. they the other two morning, I walk on the tread mill and burn at least 1000 calories. In the evening, I go to a high impact step aerobics class three times a week and then walk on the tread mill for the other three days. I have participated in every fun run we have had out here is Iraq post surgery two months ago-----which is every Sunday...These races range from a 5k to 10k's. I was training for an 18k but because of operational commitments, I couldn't’t partake in that.....I was really upset about that but soon realized i have the rest of my life to run a half marathon. It is amazing the support I get from others runners when I am on the street. People I do not even know.

Because I have been exercising, I have not gained a stretch mark on my body-yayyyy. I religiously put bio-oil on my body daily. I believe that is a key factor in preventing stretch marks.

On a bad note, I still have high dosage of ketones in my urine. I am not cramping as bad I was in the beginning but I know I will have to see a doctor when I get back. M doc here said I was boarder line anemic.. I am taking a double dosage or my iron pills now because there are not "green leafy vegetables" out here in Iraq.

Up till this date, I still have a protein shake once a day..Mostly in the evenings. I love the unjury shakes and sometimes, I feel like I can just live of that. Every now and then, I have cravings and I satisfy my cravings but do not over do it.

Other than that and loosing a few friends, I am doing great.....I just love my sleeve

PICS TO COME SOON

1 month and 6 days post op-33lbs down

May 14, 2011

So it has been 1 month and 6 days since surgery. My recovery was a breeze. I can say I heeled very well. That was my main concern but thank God, everything went well.

I was on liquids for a whole month and it really did not affect me that much. I was scared to actually start eating regular foods but I am now getting over that fear. I have been sticking to my diet religiously. Have a shake one a day with two meals. I am just too full to have three meals.

I have been also counting my calories and I am always about 100 calories less. I am eating enough protein, very low minimum carbs and fats. I take all my supplements religiously and on top of it, work out like crazy.

I have participated a 6k, a 9k and tomorrow I will be running another 6k. in between that, have been running at least a 5k three times a week and also  step aerobics three times a week. I then walk on the incline on the treadmill for an hour days I do not run or step.

Physically, I am getting there. Even though I have only lost 33 lbs as of today, I am in better shape.  My BMI went from 37 to 29.6 so I am just overweight right now. I know my weight will not drop and fast as I want it to but eventually, it will. My goal is to reach goal in 6 months. That means I have 42lbs to do. I hope to lose another 8lbs by my second month anniversary.  I will soon post my one-month pics.

 I love my sleeve

18 days post op

Apr 26, 2011

Today is my 18 days post op. Today is also my first day of exercise. I had a great workout this morning. I am lucky to say I did not have any complications during surgery. Thank God for that. I am still in my liquid stage. Since I had a revision, my doc kept me on the liquid stage for a long time. I love the unjury protein powder. I have it three times a day with soy milk. Then I have broth every now and then. I am not yearning for real food nor sweets so I guess that is a good thing.  I have lost 19.2 pounds as of yesterday morning. Since I am out here in Iraq and cannot really wear civilian clothes, I can only measure myself in my uniforms. I went from an XL to a Large in both my pants and shirt. People keep telling me of how much weight I have lost.   I am soo afraid of loosing too fast and having saggy skin and stretchmarks. Though I am a size 16, I did not have stretch marks anywhere on my body. I was running a lot prior to surgery and I intend on doing that.

My only problem is that I have not had a bowel movement in about two weeks.........So far, I am happy with my sleeve

5 days post op

Apr 14, 2011

I am five days post op and I am feeling very good. After the surgery, I thought I was not going to be healed for a long time. My surgery went great with Dr. Aceves and his crew. I do not regret going to Mexico to perform my surgery. Everything went well from the day I was picked up in front of my house to when I was dropped off in front of my house. The first day home not was very great though I still was able to leave the house and run errands. Ever since then, I have been out to the mall every day with my friend and just running errands. I was feeling soo good that I went and took pics at the mall which turned out really well. ....Now, I am having problem with my diet. I am only able to drink apple juice, fish soup(yeah it sounds nasty but I am African and we make it well), and Popsicles(just tried them yesterday). The Popsicle says sugar free but i noticed it tasted a bit sweet. When I read the ingredients, it  had sweet and low in it....I guess it works for me.....I weighed myself today and I am 9lbs lighter than my surgery date so I guess I cannot complain. I have not started with my protein yet..I was told to wait ten days. Just wondering, what kind of protein can I have on clear liquids...Well I am feeling great and will keep updating..........
