Back from Tijuana with my sleeve!

Sep 19, 2011

The surgery went well, no problems.  Dr. Kelly is great, he really seems to care about his patients.  He came to see  me every day, both at the hospital and at the hotel, to see how I was doing and answer any questions.  I must say I'm torn, because I'd really like to reccommend him to everyone...but I hope he gets the business end of things straightened out ASAP.  There was a lot of confusion.  I have very little patience for drama and office politics, and have no interest in getting involved with these crazy feuds between patient co-ordinators.  In the end it's only the patient who suffers.  Don't get me wrong, the surgery went great, I'm not talking about physical suffering.  I'm talking about mis-information and confusion.  Dr. Kelly is an excellent surgeon but he's got way too many cooks in his kitchen.  I currently have 4 different post-op diets, recieved from 4 different people who work for Dr. Kelly in some regard, and they're all different.  How am I supposed to know which one to follow?  I got a lot of information that wasn't correct, a lot of things I was told would happen didn't (like being able to make free phone calls home from the hospital), a lot of things I wasn't told that I needed to know (like that I wouldn't be able to take my regular prescriptions for 2 weeks after the surgery) and apparently Dr. Kelly was oblivious to all of the problems until one of my travelling companions complained.  We walked 6 blocks to find a convenience store so we could buy Gatorade, because nothing was provided for us at the hotel.  Thankfully, one of my companions had a bunch of band-aids with her, or I would have been flying home with nothing over my incisions, because nothing was provided for dressing changes on the last day.  There are too many people  trying to take care of Dr. Kelly's patients, they each give different promises, they're contradicting each other, and it only causes extra stress for the patient.
If anyone wants to know more you can message me.  Dr. Kelly is awesome, I just wish his employees could get their acts together.  I think he could be a top surgeon if his people would just work together instead of fighting each other.

Pre-op diet!

Sep 01, 2011

My surgery is booked for Sept 15th with Dr. Ramos Kelly in Mexico.  I was told I only need to start a pre-op diet 7 days before surgery, but I don't want my big ole liver getting in the way :-) so I'm starting the liver-shrinking diet today.  I've been practicing with protein shakes for the last week or so, and it's been great.  I got chocolate flavor, so it tastes like chocolate milk.  I'm sure I'll be sick of them soon, but so far so good!

Off to Mexico?

Aug 14, 2011

I'm looking at VSG surgery with Dr Ponce De Leon in Tijuana.  Probably sometime mid-September.  My family has been very supportive.  Complete strangers tell me I'm crazy, that they knew somebody who knew sombody who had complications, got an infection, etc etc.  I placed an ad locally asking for feedback from anyone who'd had surgery in Mexico - got 3 responses, not one of whom had actually been there or had surgery.  So, I'm going on my own instincts, and what I've found on forums like this one.  It's reassuring to hear from people who've actually experienced it.  So thank you everyone who has shared your experiences on this forum - I've only registered recently, but I've been reading posts for quite some time, and they've been very helpful.
