Hello everyone! My name is Lisa, I am 39, mom of two handsome boys age 10 & 17 and happily married to my high school sweetheart.  My husband & I met in high school & we have been together now for a total of 22 years. Over the last 17 years, I have gained about  70 pounds total including 2 pregnancy's and currently weigh 244 pounds. After our first child I kept on some of the weight. I would try all different types of diets, just to loose a few pounds here & there. When I had my second son I tried not to gain too much, I knew it would be hard to shed the second time around.

My husband has always been very supportive even though I am not happy with my current weight. Diabetis runs on both sides of my family & about 8 years ago I was diagnosed as Type 2 Diabetic. I was scared in the beginning & was taking my meds but then I kept saying to myself that this wasn't happening to me. I didn't want to believe it!! After a while I stopped taking my meds & testing my blood sugars. Due to me not wanting to believe in reality I put my family through  some scary times. I had not been felling well & my side was hurting so bad that I went to ER only to be told to go home with some Vicoden. Later that night I could not stand or walk, my husband called the Ambulance & was taken back to ER. Finally they figured out that my triglycerides were "CRAZY HIGH" & I ended up in ICU for a few days. The Dr. said I was lucky to be alive. Due to this I now have High Cholestrol. After going through this experience I said to myself that I would take better care. I did do good for a while until two years ago, I had slacked off on my Diabetis meds & ended back in ICU for a week. Again, I was told I was lucky to be alive since my blood sugars were in the 500's. The Dr. put me on insulin which I have to inject 5 times a day. When I was in the hospital I lost about 20 pounds only to put it back plus another 25 pounds due to taking Insulin. They explained that Insulin can cause you to gain weight, this is just what I wanted to hear.

In Dec. 08 I joined they gym with my son & in the begining we were working out together but with him still in high school the workout schedule wasn't working with my work schedule. I decided to try the Water Arobics class on my days off which is an hour long a try. After my first time I really enjoyed it. I make sure to go 3 - 4 times a week & now have lost a total of 11 inches in just 40 workouts. I enjoy this class very much & have met some very nice people!!

When I first heard of Gastric Surgery I was interested but never looked in to it. I had mentioned it to my Family Doctor and she said there was a Lap Band that I could look in to. I had to take 6 months of Nutrition classes, and once I was completed I could finally meet with the Surgeon. We talked & I explained my health issues & he said I would qualify due to my two serious health issues. I was sent for some tests & met with the physic. Everything has gone so smoothly even though it has taken nearly 11 months to complete everything by the time my surgery date comes around!! I was so EXCITED when my insurance recieved my request it was approved the same morning!!!

Well my surgery is only 3 weeks away, I am excited but nervous at the same time. I am still young & I want to live a long & healthy life with my husband & kids!! I want to see my kids grow up & have their own families. I don't know what I would do with out them!! I am really excited that the date is getting closer. I want to thank my husband for all his support through the years! I love you with all my heart!!

I will keep everyone updated during the next few days. Thanks for listening to my story.
