Hi! My name is Robin. I am 48 years old. I have been overweight since my early 30's. I had a hysterectomy for cancer a year ago and have gained another 50# since. I'm now experiencing all the health issues that go with chronic obesity. Hypertension, elevated blood glucose, elevated cholesterol, shortness of breath, sleep apnea, etc. etc.
I travel for my career and am now finding myself at the very limit of airline seatbelts. I am tired of being overweight and worried about the impending health concerns. I am scheduled for a lap sleeve with Puget Sound Surgical Center on October 15th. I am new to this web site and want to join a group that is North Puget Sound based. I live in Friday Harbor and due to the island location and small population, do not have local support. I travel Monday thru Friday for my work. My husband is supportive, but he is not with me when I travel. My daughter is journeying on this path with me. She had a lap sleeve done today (9/11/09). She is my best friend and our goal is to be each other's best support on this journey. But since we are both new to this, I'm looking forward to communicating with others who have been down this road or are beginning their journeys as well.
In addition, I am a registered nurse and am feeling all the expected issues of conflict related to being in a health care career and responsible for helping others to be healthy when I am not practicing it myself. This is the beginning of a new life for me. I look forward to making new friends and being a contributing member of this site.
