Cleaned my closet!

Mar 20, 2011

At 7 weeks post op, I've only lost about 28 pounds but 17.5 inches.  My clothes started feeling and looking big so I pulled out my smaller size clothes I had in storage and more than half of them already fit me!  I now have more jeans than I could wear in 2 weeks plus a whole new wardrobe for work!  Another month or two and all my skinny clothes won't fit!  I went through my entire closet and purged it of everything that is too big!  What a great feeling!  I'm off to the Goodwill - no more keeping the fat clothes "just in case"!

Feeling great!

Mar 10, 2011

Down 25 pounds at 6 weeks post op.  Feeling better with more energy and able to eat a little more at each meal.  Doing my best to stay away from sweets which is the only thing that calls out to me.  No more candy in the house!  Still getting most of my protein in liquid form since my meals are so small.  I am able to work out again which should help the inches and weight keep coming off.

Small setback

Feb 22, 2011

Note to self: DON'T OVERDO IT!  I went back to working out last week but definitely overdid it.  I ended up working out 5 times (too much) and 3 times included zumba which is wonderful if you are fully healed BUT I am not.  My stomach muscles are so sore that I could not sleep laying down the last 2 nights - had to sleep half sitting up.  Plus it hurts just getting up and down from a chair.  The good news is that it is 100% better than it was this morning, Therefore I am going to skip the workout this week and let myself heal.  Maybe next week I will try it again - certainly will make myself ease into it a lot slower.  Met with the nutritionist today and she said I am doing great.  Getting in all my protein and vitamins.  A little light on liquids which I am slowly increasing and she is not concerned.  I only lost  a few ounces in the last 2 weeks but she says I should be past the 3 week stall so hopefully the scale will start to reflect it soon.  I am not worried as I know it will kick in pretty soon!

Progressing

Feb 17, 2011

I used to drink about 24 ounces of water when I worked out and now I am lucky if I can get 4-6 ounces down!  Quite an adjustment.  The hardest part of my day is getting enough liquid.  Having no issue with protein intake as long as I supplement with shakes, powders, etc.  Am trying different foods but not tolerating meat very well yet.  Luckily I love cheese!

Getting into a routine

Feb 15, 2011

I went back to working out yesterday and it feels wonderful - not overdoing it since it has only been 2 1/2 weeks post op.  I'm finding that I can eat a little more at a time and more often.  I started counting calories, liquid and protein to track my progress and show the nutritionist next week.  My curves trainer told me of a member that did the bypass surgery and all she ate was Doritos and diet soda post op.  She killed her thyroid and gained all her weight back.  AAAHHHH! i WILL NOT DO THAT.

2 week post op sleeve

Feb 10, 2011

Today was a pretty good day.  Got up earlier than I have been recently - 8:30 and cleaned my entire fridge out.  I felt like I accomplished something!  I got tired after lunch and had to take a nap at 3 but after I woke up I went for a great walk then felt so ambitious that I finally finished putting away my Christmas stuff!  I need to go back to work so I can get on a regular schedule and not be up blogging at 11:30 at night!

1st post-op nutrition

Feb 09, 2011

Today was my first post-op nutrition appointment with Barb at pacific nutrition and wellness who is wonderful!  I was feeling really good and she said I am doing great.  It;s time to start moving and expanding my food choices.  I had some hummus and a couple crackers today which tasted wonderful!  I also got out and did about a mile and a half walk with a supportive friend! I was tired before the walk but felt so energized after we were done.  It feels so good to move again!  Going to try an easy Zumba class tomorow - can't wait!

My Story

Feb 09, 2011

I have been heavy my whole life.  I tell people I was born a size 6x!  I was 225 pounds in high school.  Luckily I was still popular and had no trouble finding boyfriends!  I justified my weight thinking that I would have more boy trouble if I was thin!  I was not completely miserable but I knew I was unhealthy.  Like a lot of people, I have tried every kind of diet from eating only pineapple, low carb, no carb, weight watchers, jenny craig, lindora - you name it.  I always lost weight when motivated but once I went off the diet the pounds would creep back on.  I know how I am supposed to eat but was in need of that little extra tool to help me get the weight off once and for all.  I started looking at WLS options in CA 2 years ago. There is a place that advertises all over So Cal for the lap band.  It was a bad experience just going through the consult.  They herd you through like cattle then convince you to have an ultrasound, endoscopy, etc and bill your insurance astronomical amounts. In 2007 I lost 50 pounds and I met a great guy.  He moved up here in Jan 2009 and I followed him in Oct 2009 to the beautiful NW.  I have put back on almost all of the 50 pounds am so lucky that my guy has stuck with me.  I was sick and tired of the yo-yo dieting and decided to start exploring my options again. I found the Puget Sound Surgical Center and found out about all my options.  I decided to have the sleeve and am now 2 weeks post op and feeling great!!  I feel the yo-yo dieting is finally over and I can let my thin self out once and for all!

Sleeve post op

Feb 08, 2011

Today is day 13 post op of my sleeve procedure.  Have done better than expected.  Am able to get all my protein, liquids and vitamins down.  Really have to make myself remember to eat as I am definitely not hungry. Basically eating protein shakes, greek yogurt, mashed potates and cottage cheese!   Had bad day yesterday with severe constipation that kept me down all day.  Miralax finally kicked in and am 100% better today.  Decided to look online for support group and found this website which has more blogs than any other.  Glad to see that others are going through the same issues.  Going to start moving around more today and start getting my house in order!  Have to go back to work next week - yuck!  I kinda like hanging out at home!
