Up Date 2-21-11 16 months out highest 258 prior to sury 245

Feb 21, 2011

Hey weight loss family:

Today I am 16 months out from RNY. Currently weighing in at 139, and seem to flucuate between there and 141.
My surgeon indicated he would be happy if I got my weight down to 150, though am comfortable where I am.
Saw a plastic surgeon, and after submission of photos to insurance of excess skin they refused my surgery. Shocking, I know.
I seem to be able to hide the excess skin well enough in my clothes and luckily I don't have that  "use to be huge" look (even though I was)which is a good thing, lol. However, having said that.. I do have some excess skin under my chin (wattle) that drives me nuts.  I have to say I am one happy woman. I should exercise more, and I am working on that.  I have no problem making the right choices when it comes to eating, occasionally something will disagree with me but have had no dumping.
I love the new me. More importantly. I am off all meds, insulin. hi blood pressure.  Husband had rny 12-9 and is already down close to 70 pounds!

Happy New Year to All

Not sure if I mentioned in my last update four weeks out of surgery (rny) I prepared my family's Thanksgiving feast.  I focused more on the actual preparation of the meal than eating it. In fact, as I am sure many of you will agree, after doing all that cooking, smelling all those aromas, lol I was full!  This was the first year ever that I baked pumpkin pie and from scratch even the crust, made two cream cheese pies, sweet potato casserole (got the best recipe off of Allrecipes.com...the stuff was to die for (no marshmallows were sacrificed in the making).  My turkey was picture perfect.. in fact I insisted on taking a picture of it,  was so pretty.  It looked just like on TV. I used Alton Brown's preparation technique and had brined the bird for 24 hours.

As my family sat down to the table,   I knew I would not be able to eat much but was surprised at how little I could actually eat. Using a small plate, served extremely small portions. Even less than I would serve my five year old grand daughter and was only able to eat half of what was on the plate.

By Christmas my daughter in law prepared an egg casserole dish which tasted delicious but my appetite is not what it was.. in fact.. I don't get hungry. I force myself to eat what I know  my body needs.  Am so concerned about getting the protein in,  once I do there is no room left in my stomach for anything else.
Not feeling cheated or deprived, thank God.

At almost 12 weeks out.. I am down to 209, 9 pounds from Onderland! I am feeling wonderful, have so much more energy than before. Actually went shopping at the mall, and after almost five hours my hubby who usually runs circles around me was pooping out ! I do have trouble sometimes getting in the recommended amount of protein and water but press on. My endocrinologist cut my insulin almost completely back, my blood pressure medicine was cut way back and he advised the more weight I continue to lose, most meds will probably be stopped.  I was thrilled to hear this.

258 when started two week pre-op liquid diet
248 one week later ate pre-op examination
240 morning of surgery
245 the next evening when I came home
209 on 1-9-10

yay  me!

I try not to get on the scale everyday as it fluctuates

My progress to date

Nov 28, 2009

okay, 5 weeks post op.

Going into surgery I was so calm and relaxed not nervous at all just excited.   It was a total of 11 months from my decision to have the surgery, once I actually had it.

First thing I remember is being in my hospital room and feeling a lot of pressure on my chest.  I also had a strange feeling I couldn't  put my finger on, was like a weird kind of hunger pang.  Of course they had me hooked up to the pain medicine which I used as needed.  Later that evening they got me up to walk around.

The next morning I was feeling much better and using the pain medication much less, as the day progressed I felt better and better.  The surgeon came in and checked me out and released me to go home. I was moving slow but with ease.  They gave me very small amounts of water to sip on in the hospital which went down very easy  and was very fortunate not to have any nausea, and from what I've heard from others on the site that made me very happy.

The first three days at home I was pretty uncomfortable and tried to use the liquid vicodin as infrequently as possible as I didn't want any side affects from that. Water and juice continued to go down easily and stay down. On about the fifth day I was feeling great, even had cabin fever so the hubby and I took a ride to see our grand baby. Luckily no problems with any of the phases of the post op diet, am now on soft solids and having no problems at all, but do look forward to having a good salad.

I am so so happy, looking forward to the next year as my weight comes off.  My weight, 258  when I started my pre-op diet on 10-8 one week later at the pre-op visit with the surgeons office It was 248. The morning of my surgery 240.  When I came home from  the hospital 245, today 11-28, 225. So happy with my progress and will post pictures soon to show my progression.

My only regret is not having this surgery as a much younger woman like in my early forties or late thirties. Fortunately my insulin dosage was cut way back, they have lowered the dosage on my high blood pressure medicine and the enodcrinologist said the more weight I lose the more likely it is all medication will be discontinued... I am open to anyone with questions, would be happy to discuss anything, just contact me!

my new birthday october 22 2009

Oct 03, 2009

hi friends:

Right in the middle of my required supervised 6 month diet my husbands insurance changed carriers. I was worried, turned out to be a blessing. The surgeons office said with this carrier it was not required and they submitted letter of approval. Within the very same week (I'm talking 6 days later) the letter for approval
came in the mail.  For whatever reason the surgeons office was unable to schedule it for about 7 or 8 days, to be fair that included a weekend.. but you know that felt like a month.
So, my surgery is scheduled for 10-22-09 and I am elated, not nervous or scared in the least. I just can't wait to get on with the business of losing this weight. I am 57 and wish I had done it about 4 years ago when I first thought of it.

I'll post as soon as I am able to let you all know how the surgery went.

... and then she woke up!

Mar 10, 2009

Rude awakening.  The surgeons office called me to let me know that a six month supervised/monitored diet must be followed as well as some exteneded counseling. What was I thinking? I have decided not to let this bum me out.
Have an appointment to see my PCP on thursday to get started on this and the insurance company had already cleared me for 8 visits at the psychologists office (that should have been my clue I'm guessing).
Will use the medifast food from my last attempt at that program .There it is in pink type for the world to see. No excuses, I have a brand new pair of walking shoes that need some miles put on them in the worst way, and I've got just the feet to do it. The Hubinator said he would walk with me.

status as of March 9th

Mar 09, 2009

Had my consultation appointment with Dr Pehrsson on January 9Th.  Have gotten all the required tests done except for  the lab work and one more test the cardiologist wants to do. Just waiting on approval from the insurance company. Having attended the nutrition class and the psychological evaluation (providing I passed) Surgeons office can now submit a request for approval.  All I can say is thank goodness for twilight sleep, as I remember nothing of having the colonoscopy and endoscopy. I have to admit I was pretty nervous going in.
I am so excited, the next three weeks waiting on that letter of approval will be like waiting on pins and needles.
