"I have met Dr. Kjorstad just once so far; for my initial surgery consult. I am scheduled for surgery in 4 weeks. My initial impression of Dr. Kjorstad was definitely favorable. He looks to be in his late 20s but is actually in his late 30s. I had done some research on him but still wanted to grill him on is credentials and experience. If I didn't feel comfortable, I would have had no problem asking for another surgeon but I am very satisfied so far with Dr. Kjorstad. He is very straight forward and took the time to explain the procedure and risks. He had no problems with me grilling him personally or asking my list of questions regarding the procedure. He is not the Dr. Marcus Welby type but that is not what I was looking for.
Update: Saw Dr. Kjorstad for my pre-op appt a week before my surgery. Very polite and all business. I asked him about some the technical aspects of his surgery preferences, size of bougie, does he oversew, etc. He smiled, said I had done some homework then stepped me through everything. I left feeling very confident.
On the day of the surgery, he met me in OR prep. Again, asked if I had any questions. He asked my wife where she would be waiting. The entire OR team was very upbeat and professional. He personally found my wife and told her everything went very well. I saw him every day of my hospital stay. Always checking out the incisions, my chart, and asked about pain and walking. He even okayed me staying one extra day in the hospital on my request. In addition his surgical residents also visited me everyday separate from Dr. Kjorstad. They were also very professional and polite."
