Scripps Mercy Hospital (COE)

"The nurses were wonderful - the room was clean. I was off the beaten path so had a quiet room. Totally recommend Scripps Mercy Hospital."

Laurence Tanaka

"I had my surgery 3/31/06. As everyone said - Dr. Tanaka is a bit abrupt and to the point - but all the information I had on him showed that he had performed this surgery (RNY) so many times - I had little worries. When he first checked me out - he said I was a good candidate for the Lap RNY and that I didn't have to lose any more weight but that if I gained - they would cancel the surgery. When I was in the hospital - I had a small 'bag' I had to carry around with a tube inserted directly into my stomach over and above IV drips. When I checked, I was told this was a pain medication that went directly to the stomach. I had spoken to 4 other patients on my floor and none of them had this bag. I had no pain upon waking and had to use little of the morphine drip in the IV. I believe Dr. Tanaka is the reason for this. When I left the hospital 2.5 days later, I felt like I could run a marathon. I highly recommend him. My only recommendation is that you make sure you get all your questions answered and not fear that he is 'rushing' you due to his abrupt demeanor. Make sure you take a list of all the medications you are taking with you. I go back to see him at my 1 month checkup on 5/4/06. (The above information is my opinion on my personal experiences only and should be taken as such). "
