3 week check up

Feb 11, 2008

Just got home from my 3 week post op check  up. Everything looks good, down 35 lbs since surgery, over 50 since I started the pre op diet.

I got my multi vitamins today, calcium supplements, and B12. These things are gross. I have to use the ones from the doctors office for the first month I believe after that I am allowed to find my own from the store.

I am happy to report that the one kidney stone has passed. Talk about fun peeing into those stupid paper filter things. Not in as much pain now, still sore though so wondering if maybe I still have more to pass.

I was joking with the surgeon about my one kidney. I asked him he took it to sell.

I ate my first real meal today, they advanced me to semi solids. I had grilled shrimp from Red Lobster. My wife loves Red Lobster so I agreed to go there. Red Lobster seems to be RNY friendly, they let me just order one skewer of shrimp. Which turns out to be 6, I was able to eat 2 and be full so I have meals for the next couple days...lol

More Tests

Well I think I am about quart low after leaving the doctors. They pulled blood to do every test I think there is, plus an EKG. I am scheduled for my sleep study on the 2nd. The doc thinks there is a good chance I have sleep apnea. If so that might delay the surgery. Something about wanting it treated before surgery. Don't know about trying to sleep with a bunch of wires glued to my head. I guess I should start studying for my test, yes I know that was a lame joke but I couldn't help myself.
I was talking to my spouse and she said she is worried about me having the surgery. I asked her why she is so worried and she said once I'm skinny I would leave her for some other woman. I told her, she has nothing to worry about, that wouldn't be the reason I would leave her. She seemed upset, guess I have to work on my sensitivity. In all seriousness I must admit I would never leave her, she has stuck with me through thick and thin. no pun intended.

The beginning

Well where do I start? I guess a little about myself, I'm 32 married and have an 11 year old son. I have been over weight most of my life. It just has never been this bad before. I am a type II diabetic, my cholesterol is through the roof, before meds I was at 1296, yes that's right. I had pure fat flowing through the veins. I have bad knees, bad back, hip, sleep apnea. It might be easier to name the things that aren't bad. If there's a comorbidity I have it. I have always been an over achiever.
I started off researching the lap band system, but after attending an educational seminar in Traverse City I think I would be better off doing the bypass. I just know myself and I know that with the lap band I would still be able to cheat with chocolate and with the bypass and the dumping syndrome it would make me think twice about the chocolate.
It took me reaching well over 300 pounds for me to realize that I am killing myself. I have a goal of seeing my son graduate high school. Which is sad for a 32 year old, but truthfully if I don't do something soon I will never achieve my goal. I have tried almost every diet out there, nothing works for me I lose a few pounds but end up gaining more back then when I started. I used to be able to walk a few miles but now just walking a few feet is painful.
Well I cant think of anything more to write.
