Things are moving!

Jun 11, 2009

Hi, I am three months out tomorrow and I have reached the goal I was aiming for in my head.  I wanted to lose 30 lbs in the first three months.  Actually it has been 30.5 lbs lost! Yay!  Now I have worked very hard doing exercise class with scary names like Bootcamp, Ripped and Hi, Low.  But the efforts have paid off.  The weight started moving faster with the exercise component into play.  In the past I would exercise but I would eat too much so I would not see the results on the scale so much.  Last week I started journaling my food and activity in a book.  It's a very visual and concrete tool to help me see how I'm doing.  Before I would use the Sparkpeople website only, which by the way is a fantastic tool but I could not bring it with me.  My book I can.  I hope the scale keeps moving and that I stay motivated.  So far I am loving the effects on my health and in the mirror!

Standing still!

Mar 27, 2009

At two weeks post-op, I feel like I hardly had anything done to me at all!  I must eat smaller portions of course but I feel no pain!  I suppose that is a good thing.    I have only lost 5 pounds since I went into surgery and that was in the first week.  Now I am at a stand-still...stuck at 234!  Grrrr!  I get my first fill in two weeks!  I can't wait!

Day 4 Post-op

Mar 16, 2009

I went to Mississauga, ON, which is an hour from Cambridge, ON, they operated (had the lap band put in)and 5 hours later, I was home!  How's that for efficient?!
Weird thing is that when I woke up from surgery, I was super chatty, just talking away to the nurse and happy as can be.  This really surprised me because, I'm not normally like that!
So the doctor came to explain to me that I had a hiatus hernia and they had to fix that during the lap band surgery.  Apparently some of my stomach was up in my chest!  The doctor also explained that this is common enough and easy to fix.  So that was great that they could do that.
I have three small incisions and one that is about two inches long. They are all healing nicely and only one is showing some bruising so far.

As far as food goes Ithink I am going to have to keep a record of what I eat because I am not sure how many calories I am getting in.  So I have no idea if it is enough or not enough.  I have not been feeling hungry, I think it might be because the stomach is swollen or irritated from the surgery.  So I feel really good but spacey.

Pain has been really manageable and alot better than when I had a C-section.

That's it for now.  Take care to all of you!

New Bandits!

Mar 05, 2009

Hello!  I'm new at this and I was wondering if I could get a support group going for "about-to-be"  and "new" band-its.  I don't know anyone that I can talk to about this experience.

About Me:

I live in Cambridge, Ontario with my husband and two children.  I am a supply teacher so I have a flexible schedule.
In 13 years I have gained 120 pounds!  To me that is amazing! And, I don't like it!

I am going to have the lap band surgery on March 12, 2009.  I am excited about it for many reasons but right now, I am purely motivated by the fact that I won't have to drink the Opti-fast shake EVERY meal!

I look forward to hearing from you!
