Hello everyone! My name is Carol and I'm 53 years old. In September 2004, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. At that time, I weighed approximately 142 pounds and was reasonably healthy. I did have high blood pressure. Since the diagnosis for the R/A, I was given several drugs to try to suppress the disease. I was on steroids (Prednisone) for about a year and my weight went out of control. I am now off the steroids but can't seem to lose the weight no matter how hard I try. I'm on Humira and methotrexate for my arthritis and they seem to be keeping it in check. Since I gained over 70 lbs. I developed sleep apnea, high chloresterol, and fibromyalgia and C.O.P.D. I seem to be allergic to all the masks for my c-pap machine. I made the decision to have laprascopic bypass surgery in order to hopefully aleve some of my co-morbidities. I know my rheumatologist is for the surgery as it will put less stress on my joints if I weigh less. My pulmonary doctor also is all for me having this surgery. I've always been a very active person and the arthritis just stopped me in my tracks!
So I'm hoping to get my life back.
