Wow...where to start! I have fought my weight my entire life. Finally was approved for gastric bypass in 2002-it was performed and no complications. Things went well for the first 14-16 months and then I gradually starting to notice different things. Like becoming hungry more and more often. Eating more-my pouch was not small like it was in the beginning. Before my surgery I weighed 353 lbs. and got down to 200 lbs. I was feeling great, all health issues that I had battled were gone and I was able to live a normal life. Once the weight started coming back, it wild how fast it happened. Within 12-24 months I have gained the majority of the weight that I had lost back.
I have been devestated-not thinking there was anything I could do. The surgeon that perfomed by surgery has since retired (which I was not real sure about consulting him again) and I was not sure there were any other options available. I then found Dr. Russell Gornichec, through friends, family and many of his co-workers. I scheduled an appointment to meet with him, first to find out what in the world happened to the bypass and if there was anything he could offer me. I felt We have done a couple of test and have found that the staple line is still intact and the pouch was either made too large, or has just stretched out. He was very straight forward with me in regards to my options. He did not hold anything back-(Which was a good thing and I really liked how straight forward he was). We have started the process AGAIN to do all of the test, write all of the letters and proy for approval from my insurance company. I just belive everything will work out for the best. There were a couple of different options that we discussed, and I have never felt more at ease than I do with him. He explained everything with such detailed description. After speaking with my husband, I chose to go with the Lap Band over the gastric bypass that failed. I feel it is the safer choice and I feel that I am in good hands with Dr. G.
I would like to visit with anyone that has had a gastric bypass and then going back for a revision, and has chosen to do the lap band, Any feedback-GOOD and BAD.
