Happy Thanksgiving

Nov 21, 2012

It's been just over two months since I've had the band placed over my 6-year-old gastric bypass.  I've had two fills thus far and have lost about 8 pounds.  I'm less hungry than I used to be and am getting used to eating much less than I was able to eat when I first had my gastric bypass.  Ironic....

I look forward to having a non-food-related Happy Thanksgiving with my fiancee and two wonderful children, some family later on for coffee and dessert and a weekend of just chilling....

Good luck to all!  Have a splendid holiday.

Just had a lapband over my gastric bypass - anyone else?

Sep 21, 2012

Hi there.  I haven't been back on here in many years, and I guess there's been alot of good news and some bad during that time.  The bad, however, "outweighs" the good, since I regained almost 80 pounds of the 136 pounds I lost with my gastric bypass.  Yeah, I had some excuses....lost my job (unemployed for two years!), back surgery that laid me up for a few weeks, bilateral foot surgery that prohibited me from doing my zumba exercises, fell out of and in love with guys who love to cook and eat....yeah, I've got all the excuses.  But it did seem like the weight came back on in 20-pound increments over the last two years.  I was "small" when I met my fiancee and now I'm "fat" all over again.

So, I went back to my original surgeon, and surprisingly, the insurance I now have approved a lap-band over my bypass after making me jump through some hoops.  I had the Realize band inserted a week ago today.  Here's the kicker - I'm starving!  I'm always hungry and I realize it's because the band isn't filled yet, but omg, can someone please do surgery on my brain and tell it to stop making me think I'm hungry!

Soft mushy foods begins today and I'm already sick of yogurt, sugar-free puddings and soups.  I can eat a cow, much less just four ounces of mush!  I'm hoping the band, when it's filled, helps me feel satiated.

Anyone else go through this?  Anyone get the answer why the bypass "stops working" after a certain number of years.  I was led to believe that we only "absorb" half of the calories we eat and that's why the weight loss is fast and permanent.  Not!!!!!

Thanks for listening!
