So, I'm 34 now, and I've been fat as long as I can remember.  I was always the chubby one, the "fat friend," the one with a pretty face but not much else.  I was always last picked for dodge ball, the last one to the finish line (walking by then), the one who provided chuckles at the swimming pool. Many of these experiences have led to the smart-ass sense of humor I enjoy today.  My mom was also fat, and unhappy, and tried to get me to lose weight with her.  She made us eat sprouts and carob (barf) as kids because she didn't want us to get fat(ter).  In the 5th grade, she and I went on a diet of protein shakes and salad (lettuce with vinegar).  I would get up at 4:45 a.m. to exercise every morning with my dad.  Until now, I have tried every diet available.  I always gained my weight back plus extra.  I always thought that if I just had more willpower and wasn't such a lazy slob, I could be thin and beautiful.  I recently met a woman who was very successful with lap band surgery, so I started researching the options.  I know there is a thin, energetic, life-loving person inside of me - I can't wait to meet her!
