3 Year and 8 Months Update

Apr 07, 2011

I guess this is good to post as it gives me reference to my history; other than that it is worthless.

Today's weight (April 7, 2011) was 177.  My goal is to stay between 170 and 175 lbs so I am still a few lbs. high. As usual, I have avoided the scale for several weeks. I still overdo the beer often and I attribute the excess weight to it.  Oh well, I like Guinness and it is habit forming. :)  I plan to lose the 2 to 7 lbs as I seem to be able to be able to control it.

2 Year & 4 Months Update

Dec 02, 2009

Today's weight (December 1, 2009) was 180.  My goal is to stay between 170 to 175 lbs and I have exceeded my upper limit.  I knew it was happening so I avoided the scale for several weeks.  Well now I have decided to find out if I can actually manage my weight and have decided to get back to basics.  Mainly I plan to stick to the protein type foods that helped me lose weight to begin with.  As stated prior, I was allowing myself to drink as much beer as I wanted.... now I am cutting it out completely until I get within my range.  After that I will set a reasonable limit to my intake.

2 Year Update

Aug 05, 2009

As of 8/1/2009 I am 2 years post-op.  Life has been interesting since surgery and I have no regrets.  My official weight was 176 so it looks as if I have gained 4 or 5 lbs in the past 3 months.  I prefer to keep my weight in the 170-175 range so I will be working on losing a few pounds over the next few months.  I must admit that I have been consuming more than my share of beer lately.....guess I need to throttle it back a bit.

1 Year & 9 Month Update

May 01, 2009

Today's weight was 171.  I guess I gained 3 or 4 lbs. over the past couple of months.....still within my goal of 170 to 175 lbs.  I have been as low as 163 during the interim.

19 - Month Update

Mar 02, 2009

Today's weight was 167, which represents about a 1 pound loss during the past 2 months.  Basically, I seem to be holding steady although I am still working on getting enough protein in every day.

17 - Month Report

Jan 01, 2009

At exactly one year and five months out I weigh 168 lbs., down 3 or 4 pounds in the last 2 months. I have generally fluctuated between 170 and 174 so I have been basically maintaining and I believe the lower weight today is a fluke. I ate some carbs on New Years eve along with 3 alcoholic beverages.  I actually think the alcohol temporarliy causes some temporary water loss which reappears in a day or so.  I just had lab work done with good results; my red blood count is slightly under the normal level and my B12 is higher than the range, but I have been taking extra B12 almost every day.  I see the doc soon so will discuss the out of range results which he isn't concerned about

I am still off of all meds related to health issues and my diabetes is almost undetectable.  My A1c has been 5.7 for the last two rounds of lab work.  Cholesterol is great with no medication.  Even had testosterone and psa tests.....all good.  My surgeon ordered a new calcium type test for study purposes and the lab had no clue what it was.  :)  I will be a test subject for her on this one.

I still occasionally have periods of relative weakness and still need to add some weight lifting to my life.  I don't track my eating and I do eat a few more carbs because I know I can use the calories.  Carbs when eaten alone tend to put me to sleep.  I'm still working on finding the right combination of eating protein with carbs to prevent this issue....sometimes I don't care if I fall asleep for 20 minutes, especially if the movie sucks.  Popcorn is mandatory.

The New Year should prove to be interesting for me.

15 - Month Update

Nov 01, 2008

At exactly one year and three months out I weigh 171 lbs.  I have lost 1 lb in the last 3 months and during that period of time I have fluctuated between 170 and 174 so I have been basically maintaining.  I am happy with the weight but do have periods of relative weakness.  I need to add some weight lifting to my life.  I don't track my eating and I do eat a few more carbs because I know I can use the calories.  Carbs when eaten alone tend to put me to sleep.  I suspect my blood sugar is elevated (although I have happily put away the meter so I don't test it) as it mimics diabetic symptoms.  I have labs coming up so if there is an issue I will know.

1 - Year Update

Aug 11, 2008

On August 1, 2008 (1 year anniversary of surgery) I weighed 172 lbs which puts me in the category of having lost 100% of my excess weight; what a delight!  So overall I have lost 89 lbs since surgery and 109 lbs since visiting the surgeon to start the process.  I generally feel great and have only the usual regret ---- wish I had done it sooner.  I no longer need prescription medications.

9 - Month Update

May 06, 2008

As of this morning I weighed 173 lbs.  My personal goal is to stay between 170 and 180 lbs, therefore I have lost all of my excess weight and do not wish to lose more.  WOW, never been able to say that before!  At 6' with a pretty big bone structure, I feel pretty thin; a nice change for my joints.
