Robin, You will do GREAT!!! Enjoy this Christmas with all the treats and cookies, etc...because next year you will not want them, and you will be down at least 100 #'s!!! God Bless you during and after surgery, and I pray a quick and speedy recovery and no complications. Its normal to be scared, but as God told me and I have shared with others, Feed Your Faith or Feed Your Fear. Fear cannot exist with Faith, so when Faith is in the house, Fear HAS to flee!! Hi Robin, I have a mechanical heart valve (aortic), I've had 3 open heart surgeries in my life, since I was born with a heart defect this probably isn't surprising. The major problem I face is that I am on Coumadin, a blood thinner, and I have to watch my blood INR(How thick or thin it gets), so I will be put in the hospital 2 days before my surgery which is Monday. They have to get my blood regulated for surgery then I have to stay until my blood gets to a certain number. It can be a hassle at times, all the precautions, but I'm glad they are taking precautions, it makes me feel safer. I will also have to go on antibiotics to make sure the heart doesn't get any infections. I'm sure you will have to do the same. I feel very confident in the surgeons at MUSC and I'm sure they would'nt be taking any unnessary risk on your or me. I noticed in your site you mentioned how upset your family was about you taking this risk in trrying to lose weight. I thought my family would be upset and found that they were much more supportive than I thought. I was very much surprised. I hope all goes well for you and I'll keep you posted on how things go.
