First of all:  I am a 55 year old female living in N Florida.  I have lived here most of my adult life. Fighting my weight has been a life long thing with me.  I have done just about every diet out there.  I lose and gain back even more.  When I was 34 years old I destroyed my right knee which put a cramp in my normally active lifestyle.  You have to learn new ways to do things.  I have had 3 surgeries and during all of the time I was laid up, weight would creep up on you.    So then it would be on to another diet.  Again to lose and then gain back.  I have been a member in gyms and have been active in other ways.  As one gets older, the pounds come on a lot easier than you can take them off.

I have a sedentary type job with minimal moving around.  Actually at this point, I can't do a lot of moving around.  I am lucky to get around to do the necessary things that my job requires of me.  I can not do a lot of the things around the house that I need to do because of my weight.

I am at the point that going to work and going home are my routine.  My husband is retired and during the day he goes out and takes pictures to show me when I get home, that is my outing.  I will be glad to get ot join him - I enjoy being outside and can't wait until we can go bike riding again.

Now, on to the other part of this:

I am 5'1" and weigh 258 pounds.  I have a BMI of 48.8- dangerous..  My blood pressure is beginning to creep up on me and I have GERD problems daily that are getting worse.  I have gotten to the point that some of the personal things that I need to do I am no longer able to do - pedicures/foot massages- upkeep.   My back, hips, knees and ankles are really bothering me.  I am very concerned about losing my mobility.

I work with a few people that have already had WLS and have done quite well.  One of them told me to call NFRMC Obesity Center and they would send me a packet of materials.  Well, I did that and that is when my journey started   5/2007.  I saw my PCP in June and I started doing a 6 month doctor documented diet.  I at first tried slim fast program - but that was not enough for me.  I then started taking a diet pill and had to increase my blood pressure medicine to twice daily.  The nurse in the surgical group said that the outline of my letter for the insurance company looked real good. When the holidays are over, I will have to start pushing ahead to get this process really moving.  I have already done the initial blood work and had my psych exam and he has already written my letter.  My PCP is in the process of writing his letter.

I will stop this for now.  Till next time.
