surgery at last

Jan 01, 2012

I have a gastric by-pass at Brigham and Woman's on 12/12/11.
It been a tough year but it's now behind me.
During pre-op testing I learned I had an invasive para esophageal hernia. The hernia was 100% in my chest and contained my entire stomach, intestines and some bowel. The surgeons in Maine said they would try to attempt the surgery but it would require an open processes.
After a lot of research I contacted Brigham and Women's Dr Scott Swanson one of their top thoracic surgeons. He contacted Dr Lautz from their bariatric program and together they operated on me on 12/12/11. They were fabulous.
I was in the hospital for 6 days and am now recovering.

Feb 03, 2011

I was hoping to have a gastric sleeve at MMC but they won't do the sleeve yet. So I had my Doctor fax my referral to CMMC.
Now I wait, It seems like such a long wait.(a watched pot doesn't boil).

getting things started

Jan 08, 2011

I was just referred and have so much to do to prepare and get coverage.
I when to my info meeting and to the social worker.
So many hoops to jump through,  I wish I was able to just get this done.

I really want to have a sleeve, the band is to little and the by-pass is to much.
Wishing the Casco Bay surgery would change their mind and catch up with the rest of the weight loss world.

Off to work.
