its been a while

Aug 08, 2011

Hi Friends,

It has been over a year since I last posted here.  A lot has been happening in my life.  Most recent is my husband is divorcing me.  Go Figure!  Now that I am thin!  Besides that we have adopted two beautiful children; Savannah who is now 4 and Alejandro who is 2.  I am also fostered Savannah's sister.  I have had her for 15 months now, since she was born.  I am hoping she will stay with me.

As far as my gastric bypass goes.  I am doing well.  Find myself eating a bit more than I should but I am exercising as often as I can.  Am am jogging and walking.  I dont have too many issues with dumping.  Occasionally I get the sweats and some nausea but rarely diarrhea.  I am getting ready to go back to see Dr. Roye in two weeks.  Just had my blood work done today.  It has been a rough few months with the divorce and my husband moving out.  Hoping to start eating better now.

The one thing that I am left with since the surgery is a lot of excess skin.  Because of that, I hate the way I look.  It is ironic isn't it.  Now  I am thin but still hate the way I look.  I am self conscious in a bathing suit and won't wear them too often.  I also do not wear shorts or short sleeves.  I wish my insurance would cover to have this skin removed.  It really affects the way you feel about yourself.

Good luck and best wishes to everyone.

5k

Apr 11, 2010

Ran my first 5k today.   I did it in 32:04 and I did not walk at all.  I jogged the whole way.  I am so proud of myself.  In two weeks, I will be attempting another one and hoping to PR.  I am now approximately nine months since my gastric bypass.  I have only about twenty pounds to go.  I have lost about 90 pounds.  YIPEE!  I do feel good.

Six months out

Jan 17, 2010

Well I've made it to the six month mark.  I have had my share of nausea, some vomiting, and bad food choices but overall am doing good.  I am down 74 pounds and went from a size 22/24 to a 14 petite.  I do find that I am still tired a lot but am beginning to get on the treadmill more often and can even jog for 20 minutes.  I am pleased with the results that I have obtained and hope to continue to lose another 40 pounds.  Time will tell.  The only problem I have is all the loose skin.  So much so, I hate the way my body looks.  I guess it is the price I pay for abusing it for so long.  I have lost over a hundred pounds before and could not keep it off.  I am hoping I can do it this time.  Time will tell.  Good luck to every one and may you be happy in what you do.

12 weeks postop

Oct 07, 2009

Twelve weeks post op today.  Forty-eight pounds lost.  Can't believe it.  I am feeling good and moving a lot more.  Biking and walking without difficulty.  Still have not gone out clothes shopping yet but will have to soon as all my clothes are all but falling off of me.

Other good stuff happening in my life is that we had our adoptive child placed with us yesterday.  He is 10 months old and is very active.  Crawling and standing.  Good thing I can move better so I can keep up with him.  We named him Alejandro Jose.  He is Guatemalan and Ecuadorian.  We will finalize in April.

Today I am packing for the long weekend. Going to New Hampshire to stay in a cottage by the lake.  The foliage should be great and we plan to bike a little.  Nice to get away and enjoy the outdoors.

biking

Sep 01, 2009

Been trying to bike ride.  First time out I only went 3.5 miles.  Second time out, I went 4.2 miles.  Third time I went 5.5 miles.  And today I went 10.8 miles in one hour and four minutes.  I about died though.  I am pulling a bike trailer with a 30 pound 2-year-old too.  I am proud of myself tonight!  Hoping I will be able to walk and SIT tomorrow.  I have an appointment with my surgeon in the am.  I will let you know how it goes.

Six weeks post-op

Aug 26, 2009

This morning I weighed 215 pounds.  It has been six weeks and I have lost 29 pounds.  I am feeling pretty good.  The only issue I have is with my legs.  They feel fine until I walk a little bit and then they feel weak and tired.  It has been getting better though.  I plan on returning back to work on 9/3 and feel that this is attainable.  The other issue I have had (don't know if it is related to my bypass and weight loss) is recurrent conjunctival hemorrhages.  I have had two in two weeks' time.  Went to the eye doctor and my eyes are fine.  It is just unsightly.  I advised me to get CBC and pt, ptt, INR done.  I am waiting for my lab slip to come in the mail and will do that.  Otherwise doing okay.  Have been having difficulties with cravings for carbs and head hunger.  This is not easy but I am hoping to be able to lick this awful disease.  I have an appointment to see my surgeon on 9/2 and will update you then.  Have a great day.

five weeks post-op

Aug 20, 2009

Today is five weeks post my RNY.  Three more pounds.  I feel a little disappointed because when I read other blogs the weight loss seems faster than mine.  I have lost a total of 26 pounds in five weeks.  I should be happy but with the amount of  food that I take in I would expect more weight loss.  Would appreciate any input regarding this.  I should look at the positive side because I do feel better and can move easier.  I go back to the doctor on 9/2 for a follow up and then back to work on 9/3.

Four weeks post-op

Aug 12, 2009

Good morning,

Scale this morning said I weighed 221 pounds.  That is 23 pounds lost since my RNY.  I am doing well except for my arms and legs sometimes feeling like cement.  For instance, I have trouble blow drying my hair and need to rest my arms every so often because they get heavy. The same with my legs after walking too much.  I am sure this is tied in some how with the weight loss.  Any one else experience that?

I have been eating cottage cheese, yogurt, cream of weight, chicken broth with egg beaters and of course my protein shakes.  Occasionally I have longed for a few crackers and have to say I tried this a couple of times only to pay the price with pain and the feeling like they got stuck.  So no more doing that.  At least I finally found a protein shake that I actually like.   It is put out by Reeves Nutrition.  It mixes really easy and gives you 24 grams of protein mixed in water.  No chalk taste.

Went to New Hampshire this weekend.  My husband, myself and three 2-year-olds.  I was so glad I invited by neice to come with us.  She was a big help with the kids.  We had fun.  Enclosed is a picture.

Well, I have a couple more weeks before I go back to work so hoping my arms and legs get better.  Also have noticed a back ache occasionally.  Don't know what that is all about.

Looking forward to another week to see how much more weight I will lose.  This is a very strange journey.

three weeks post-op

Aug 06, 2009

Three weeks post-op today.  My scale says I weigh 225.  That is 19 pounds off.  Yahoo, I'm on my weigh. LOL.  Just told work I won't be back on 8/17.  I go back to see my surgeon on 9/2 and will go back to work on 9/3.  I'm sure that didn't go over well.  I'm glad because I still feel very weak at times and sometimes dizzy.  By then I will be eating  a little more.

Going to New Hampshire this weekend for a mini vacation.  Looking forward to it.  Hopefully I will not have any problems with dizziness.  Drink, drink, drink!

first post op visit

Jul 31, 2009

Went to see Dr. Roye today.  My first post-op check.  I am two weeks and one day out from my gastric bypass.  I have lost 13 pounds.  Everything is healing well.  Go back to see him on September 2.  He said I could stay out of work until then.  I still am unsure and depending on how I feel, I may go back sooner.   He said I am doing all the right things but have to keep eating this way until I am six weeks post-op.  That seems like such a long time.
