Hi All,
My daughter Elizabeth the lesser had the DS and I am real proud of what she has done. She has kept me informed on her progress all along and she is an inspiration for me to do something about my weight. I have been heavy all of my adult life. Four children and a failed marriage have increased the weight. I have tried several diets all failures. I can loose 40 lbs with no problem and gain it all back again. I am thinking about having Bariatric surgery but have a lot of questions. Especially about my age.
I have had the surgery DS and am doing really well. There were some bumps in the road until I finally got a handle on myself. The usual types of foods that worked and the ones that don't. Don't try chicken white meat early on in the process. Lots of extreme discomfort. I had the DS surgery in Kuwait on April 3, 2008. My Doc was the same as my daughters, Elizabeth the Lesser, Dr.Mousa Koursheed MD. Extremely good looking man and so kind. The hospital was a whole different experience from what I am used to. Not only as a patient but as a nurse. More like a hotel. A very high class hotel at that. I never saw so many people to take care of patients. I didn't know it but I was the first patient in the history of Kuwait to have DS surgery by laproscopy. So for a little while I was famous. I was worried about the flight home from Kuwait. It took 27 hours by plane including waits in airports, Detroit, and Amsterdam. I didn't want to have a new surgery line to contend with so I opted for laproscopy. Best way to go if you can. Elizabeth was so jealous when she noticed that I was sleeping on my stomach within 10 days.
To date I have lost 39 pounds. The weight started coming off immediately and it seems to be coming off consistantly. I have experimented with different foods and carbs really give me gas. You can hardly keep from eating carbs so I don't . I just keep it to as small a part of my meals as I can. I used to love deserts. Now for some reason they aren't as important to me. I like fresh fruits and vegetables instead. Go figure that one out.
So as things change, for the better, I will add to this story of my trip to where I want to be. I have yet to determine that, but I look at the models in the clothing catalogs ,and think there goes me some day, in the near future.
