I had lap band surgery 9/21/06. At that time I weighed 226. It took me a very long time to get this far. I started out weighing 246 and 5' 3" tall. I had to lose 20 pounds before I could have the surgery. Then my surgeon wanted TONS of test taken. I had already been to the nut and phsyc. But I had taken so long in losing that 20 pounds that I had to do it all over again. It took me about two months to get all the tests done. I had many health problems and because I was 51 (over 50) I also had to have a colonoscopy UCK!! But it was not that bad. Finally I had a date for Aug 4. BUT I got an upper respitatory infection and my pulmonary DR said no to the surgery for a month. Finally on Sept 21, I was ready.
My first choice was not lap band. In fact I went into this surgery thinking that I was getting the gastric bypass. I had already been told by my dr that I might have to get the lap band because of a scar from a previous ulcer operation that I had 20 years ago. In fact that is what he recommended from the very beginning even before he knew about my scar. He told me that lap band is becomming very widely excepted and will surpass gastric bypass in the near future. But still I did not want the lap band. I wanted the fast weight loss.
I woke up from surgery with the dr telling me that I had lap band.I just had to much scar tissue. I did not do any research on lap band at all. So when I got home I got on my PC and went directly to Obesityhelp.com, read the lap band forum and started asking question on the message board. I have searched and searched the internet and not got as much information as I have on this web site.
I am now very happy with my lap band and am looking forward to a great happy healthy life.
