My story is just about like everyone else. I have always dealt with my weight. As a child as I got taller, I would slim down for a while then up my weight would go. By the time I graduated high school I was in a size 18. I did slim down to a 14-16 right before I got married. Then my mom got termial cancer and spent the next 2 years taking care of her, my dad, my husband, my son and I took a back seat. After my mom died in April 1994, I still took care of everybody but me and packed on another 50 lbs.
Five years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes and a couple of years later I found out that my hip joints are going bad because of my weight. So now I am going to do something for myself. To get healthy and look good as a bonus.
My first appointment was a seminar in Oct. 2006. The doctors office called me a week later and set up my first visit the following week. At this appointment we discussed what would be done and what would need to be done before surgery. Two days later I had another appointment, this day I saw the dietician, psyc, and internist. I was scheduled for a ECG and a stress ECG and a sleep test. All was fine and proceeded with the monthly appointments with the dietician. In Dec. I had my 3rd appointment with the dietician and then the papers were filed with my insurance company. It was a Tuesday afternoon that the papers were submitted and I was contacted on Wednsday(the next day) and told that I had been approved. I was in total shock. From what I have read on this site I was expecting a long wait.
So now I am 2 days away from surgery and everyone thinks I should be nervous but I am just excited to get this over and start living a health life.
