My Journey

May 25, 2009

9/15/09 - Doing well but did experience some vomiting due to over eating too fast. I've adjusted my eating and am doing great. I went to see my regular doc (my biggest supporter) today and her scale said I was down another 10 lbs. Can't belive that 24lbs have disappeared. I haven't seen this weight # for 10 years or more. I'm thrilled. Making breakfast every day at home, bringing lunch to work, eating dinner at home and drinking lots of water is really paying off. I'm noticing that even my shoes are getting too big. I went thru my closet, tried on everything and discarded some things. I feel like I'm really making progress and people are starting to notice. Can't wait till my 3 month checkup next month with Dr. Snyder. Then I'll be able to retake my meaurements and post some new photos.

8/31/09 - I'm on solid foods now and went to my fill class this moring and learned alot then actually had a fill. Found out I've dropped 14lbs since surgery and the type of band I have ia a 14cc Lap-Band APL. I was told the doc filled it with 3cc's during surgery. So the nurse added 3 more cc's. After the 1st day I noticed a big difference. It was definetly tighter and I couldn't eat as much. I had to slow things way down and chew, chew, chew. I felt the indegestion and even vomited on a couple of occasions but again all my fault. Now that it's been a week it's much better. I do eat smaller portions for sure and fill up quickly. I'm excited to see what happens between now and my 3 month appt in October. Just have to kick up the exercise routine. I have noticed that I'm losing inches and had to tighten the bra strap a few times :) I fired my gardner and started taking over mowing the lawn for more exercise. It works out well. Until next time...

8/20/09 - It's been a month since surgery. I've been on soft foods the last 3 weeks and did really well. Been walking 30 minutes a day. Today I graduated to solid foods and can eat every three hours instead of two. I've lost anywhere from 15 to 20lbs I think but visually I can't tell. I know I've lost some inches cuz things are looser. No issues so far and I can tell now that I can eat more than 4 oz. So I'm really careful about not grazing. Can't wait to have my first fill on the 31st. I'm ready to step up my exercise game

7/29/09 - Had my post-op visit today and was amazed that I dropped 12lbs. They were pretty surprised. I guess sticking to the program does pay off. They said the avererage is about 6lbs. I'm very excited but I know that this will not happen every week. It's only cuz my body is in shock and getting used to the new food routine and tool. After my post-op class I sat thru two nutrition classes about soft foods and solid foods. I'm armed and dangerous now and get to go grocery shopping.

7/28/09- I started on soft foods today, I think my body likes the change...no issues so it's working out well.

7/27/09 - I'm four days post-op and surprised myself by sticking to the clear fluids for the past 5 days. Thought it would be much harder but it wasn't. My incisions are healing nicely and they are not as sore. Some bruising but that's to be expected. I found out that the nausea patch they gave me was messing with my vision so I had to take it off. My eyesite should be back to normal in a few days. Will graduate tomorrow to soft foods and looking forward to eating some eggs, refried beans, cottage cheese and pudding along with lots more water....and my protein shakes.

7/23/09 - Well, It's now official,  I had lap-band surgery at 9:00am and was home by 4:00pm. Dr. Snyder and the Rose Surgical Center nursing staff were outstaning. I have 3 inisions, two very small ones above my abdomin and a larger one just to the right and above my belly button. The larger incision is sore (using the ice pack really helps tho), I have a headache and am tired. I've been drinking my 3 oz of water every one to two hours along with 1 oz of blue frost Isopure. So today is first day of the rest of my life and I'm really looking forward to the next few months. My next office visit in scheduled on 7/29 at 1pm.

7/18/09 - Cleaned out the kitchen cupboards in preparation for my new way of eating/drinking for the next few weeks. Went shopping and found protein drinks, bars, soft foods, crystal lite and the necessary vitamins. Can't believe it's almost here.

7/14/09 - Pre-Op Testing today. Another EKG, more blood work etc...2nd consult with Dr. Snyder. All went well and found out my surgery is set for 8:45am on the 23rd at the Rose Surgery Center.

7/8/09 - Attended pre-op nutrition class. This was taught by Dr. Snyder's nurse Amanda. It was very informative. In fact, I think I'm on lap band info overload but I took good notes and she gave me my lap-band notebook for reference. Thank goodness.

7/1/09 - Doctors office called today to tell me I was pre approved for lap-band surgery. I'm really excited!!.    I'm scheduled for pre-op nutrition class on July 8th, pre-op testing is set for July 14th and then the surgery on July 23rd. I've scheduled a 10 day leave of absense from work hope it's enough time. Thank goodness I have great benefits.

5/25/09 - I have my first one on one appt with Dr. Snyder on Wednesday, May 27, 2009. I'm really excited to meet with him. I've filled out all the paperwork and have gone thru all the required testing. I found out that my insurance will cover this surgery.

4/25/09 - I
attended Dr. Snyder's Bariatric Seminar today. My nephew Zach and friend Shiela came with me. It was very informative. I enjoyed hearing the post op patients stories. I actually got to meet Dr. Snyder for the first time and met some of the post op patients.
