I had my surgery on Aug 12th and things went well. My sister was supposed to have it done too and her health was so bad, they refused. She is now on dialysis and doing a lot better. I had a lot of guilt because things went pretty smoothly for me, but I know I'd end up like her if I didn't go through with it. She is only ten years older than me. Today is my six week anniversary and I feel great. The first noticeable thing was the dark ring around my neck disappeared. The Dr said that was a sign of PCOS, but I was never diagnosed. I am so glad it's gone!! It really made me want to run and hide. I have also lost 48 pounds!! That is including the liquid diet, but I still did it! I now weight 288 and I have about 5 pounds before I weight less than my husband. He keeps losing though, so it's taking me some time! I had my six week check up and they are very happy with my loss. The PA said I was ahead of schedule for even a RNY patient. I just hope things keep moving along like they are!!

So, I getting really close to my surgery. I had my consultation with my surgeon, who will be Dr. Kralovich, on the 2nd of June. I also had my psych test on June 7th. He gave me the go ahead too!! So, I got everything else they needed together and they called me on the 14th of June saying they were turning in my info to insurance. Well, they called me yesterday and I am approved!!!!!!! Now I am waiting for them to call me to set up a date!!!! The only thing holding me back is work. I am in training and cannot miss a day until July 26th. So, it looks like an August date for me!!!

Getting even closer!!
Apr 14, 2010
I went to my PCP yesterday. I took my mom because getting my PCP to agree to this surgery has been like pulling teeth! We were so prepared to fight for a referral. She asked me how my Dr. appt went with my kidney specialist and then she looked at my chart and said that weight wise I'm losing, but not very quickly. Then she tells me that she wants to make me a referral for bariatric surgery and its the way to go. So, she totally made it sound like it was her idea and it's brilliant!! Oh well, I don't care because she is referring me!! Next step is the insurance yo-yo!!

One step closer
Mar 22, 2010
So, I am getting closer to being approved. My PCP has been very reluctant to make a referral. I agreed that I have some health problems that I needed to take care of. A month after I started going to her, my blood pressure went haywire and still isn't completely under control. She started talking about it affecting my kidneys and really freaked me out. My dad was on dialysis before he died and that was all I could think of. My best friend and husband both offered me theirs and I started feeling a little bit safer. My husband thinks I was panicking for no reason, but it is really scary thinking I am following the same path the killed my dad. So, Thursday I went to a kidney specialist with my mom. He had taken care of my dad and my older sister also sees him. It's great keeping it in the family. lol He did his tests and my kidneys are at 79%. That is such a relief. It isn't a great number, but it isn't that bad. Now, I just have to get an ultrasound on Wednesday to make sure there isn't anything else going on. He mentioned to me that the best thing I can do to keep my kidneys healthy is to lose my excess weight. My mom mentioned WLS and his eyes lit up. I told him how my PCP felt and he said I really should get it done and wrote me a referral. Now, I just need my PCP to follow his recommendation! Knock on wodd that the next time I see her she'll be on board.
