Nancy O.
I have been overweight most of my adult life. I had high blood pressure and high cholesterol, I am a single parent and have one daughter. In 2005 I hit my highest weight (339 lbs) and decided I needed to do something. I joined weight watchers again and over the next year and 1/2 I lost 90 lbs. As with most other times I slowly started to gain weight. I put back 20 lbs . I was having intense pain in my knees as I needed to have 2 replacements, but the doctor said I needed to lose weight first. I started to think about the various weight loss surgeries, but was scared and couldn't bring myself to do it. In 2007 I decided that I was going to take the risk and began the search for a surgeon.
I went to a few seminars and decided on Dr. Raftopoulos at St. Francis. I had my initial consult in November and began my 3 month program that was required by insurance, I had all my pre surgery consults completed in December and January and was approved for surgery in January. Surgery was scheduled for Feb 18th. I had RNY and a repair to an umbilical hernia. All went well. I was 268 lbs at the time of surgery.
I am now on my life long journey to a healthier life.
