restarting diet

Sep 09, 2011

I have gained 6 lbs that I had lost and it is one month away from seeing Dr Dent and the Plastic Surgeon for touch up.  I want to lose from between 20-30 lbs!   I can do it.   Just cut back on carbs and portions again.  I started eating the "forbidden" foods ie fries and bread.   So as of today, no carbs except almonds.  I does work, but you need to be determined on a daily basis.
Wish me luck!

3 months after hernia and panni operation

Jul 25, 2011

Well,  it is amazing how normal I feel.  I can wear tight fitting clothes again!  I don't feel right in the loose tops that I was wearing.  This is a shame as they were not cheap, they were bought at Shepherds.  I am lucky that my sister, who saw me shrinking, felt threatened and lost 30 lbs herself and gave me A LOT of clothes that fit wonderfully.  I am into size 16 jeans and 14 tops.  Still want to lose more weight but I find it so hard lately.  Got to get myself on track.  My sister has been told by her trainer that he wants her to lose another 30 lbs, so the race is on!  She always wore petits on top and I was always in 36Ds.  With my weight loss I need a boob job badly.  That is what you get for always being a big size and then losing weight.  I am spending a lot on bras.
Saw Dr Dent and he is pleased with me and stated that he doesn't think I should lose more weight.  NOT!  I need to get down to my high school weight when I see him in October!!  Got to get on the ball here.  Another incentive.
While at his clinic I saw people who were like me and my heart went out to them.  Especially the young girls, who have so much to live for.  When you feel good about yourself, positive things start happening in your life.
I joined POF (plenty of fish) which is an on-line dating site.  Met a man, but men in their 60's are hard to change.  I adore this man but do not like the thoughtlessness.  I told him this was a problem and he informed me to quit dreaming.  Real relationships are like what we had.  No, they are not.  I want someone who thinks me special and visa versa.

It is nice to get back on the dating scene though.  It is nice to hear that men think me beautiful.  Never thought I was.  I was always fat.  But looking at old pictures, I was "fat" in the eyes of that era.  That is when a 5'4" person was supposed to weigh 114 lbs!  My mother, who freaked when her 5'3" frame went over 135 lbs put me on diets when I was 10 years old.  At 10 I was 5'1" and weighed 135 lbs. Yikes.  fat girl!

Sigh.  I became such a recluse, hiding away from people.  It is nice to get back to the living.

panni and hernia operation!

May 08, 2011

Dr D recommended and sent out a request for me for a hernia operation and I had Dr Moonje who (bless him) sent me to Dr Guay a plastic surgeon and he made the submission to OHIP to have my panni removed.  OHIP approved in 2 weeks!  Well surgery was April 29, and I am home and in some discomfort (love my morphine!) but now can see my lap for the first time in years.  I have over 80 staples and they gave me a belly button (bless them!).  Had all this done at the Civic and cannot raive enough about the nurses there.  Only problem I had was once you start getting more mobile you just can't wait to get the hell out of there.  I was soo bored!
No major change in weight, down 6 lbs since morning of surgery.  Apparently you don't see any major changes for about a month. I will find out how much was removed weight wise then.
I need to give myself 6 weeks before I can fully do anything.  I cannot lift anything over 10 lbs for that time period.  Oh to wear tops tucked in again!  I will post pictures when I can get more mobile.
Now I see legs, arms and boobs need fixen'  geez.  hopefully within the next year, so that by next summer I can walk around feeling normal again.

Surgery! April 29th

Mar 24, 2011

I thought that I would update my blog.  Lots have happened.  My nephew met his soul mate on an on line dating site called "Plenty of Fish".  At their wedding, last September,  they sat me at a table with 2 couples who met on POF as well.  I started thinking heh, since losing weight I think that I should give this a try.  Well... I met my special someone.  I am  61 and he is 66, so it is not a cougar thing.  ALSO, I am having my hernias fixed and the surgeon help me make an appointment with a plastic surgeon to see about my panni and helping with keeping my surgery incisions to a minimal.  Well, the plastic surgeon submitted my request to OHIP and it was approved.  I am having hernias and panni fixed April 29th.  I will be free of this unsightly tummy!  WOOHOO!  I see the Plastic Surgeon next week, I will let you know in my next blog how it has gone.

August 24 update

Aug 24, 2010

Down to 230 so it is coming off.  Found out that no carbs and lots of water help alot.  Hard to remember to drink water.
Kasandra is helping by being an active little puppy.  See Dr D in November.  New goal is to be under 200 by then.

It is hard work, but I am looking good!

June 10, 2010 update

Jun 10, 2010

I had been checking a breeder daily for price decreases of her 12 Biewers (off shoot from Yorkshire Terriers) and on March 29 I brought my Kasandra home.  I am so amazed at how calm (after a Jack Russell) and she does not bark, is a cuddle bunny and very very sweet.  I was going to wait until plastic surgery but could not wait.  She is now 7 months old and makes me smile daily.  I am happy to have adopted her into my life.
I am down 140lbs and find it a struggle but determined to get down another  60 lbs.  I have been losing about 2-4 lbs a month.  I am trying to lose more.  With Kasandra in my life I am walking at least 2 km on a good day.  I have discovered a brand of glucosamine called Complet-X by Platinum from GNC stores.  I swear by it.  I am now mobile and walking where before I needed a cane, I do not use one now.  Yippee!
Dr Dent was happy as he stated normally one year after surgery people stop losing.  I attribute my new goals to my sister who found I  was getting smaller than her and picked up her act in dieting.  Her comment that she was serious and I wasn't, spurred me on.  My goals these days are 5 lbs at a time.
I am currently on sick leave prior to my retirement date of November 13th.  I have found a new hobby.  Jewellry making.
My new outlook is never step out of the houser unless my hair, my makeup, my jewellry and my clothes are perfect.  Even if I am just walking Kasandra.  I feel and look so much better.  No regrets!!!  Hey for a 60 year old, I am still hot!

15 Plus Months after

Feb 27, 2010

I thought that I would update my blog.  It has been awhile.  I had been stuck at only 110 lbs lost for months and finally (doh) came to realize that even though I do not eat much, I still have to watch what I eat.  Since that realization in the past month I can say I am down 125 lbs.  It is a struggle as I can add pounds on so easily.  My sister, who has not had surgery, but is overweight had an epiphany herself.  When she found out that I was getting a smaller cup bra and only 1 size different from her she now has been motivated.  I guess it has also motivated me as she comments that she is serious, implying that I am not!  Sheesh!

I need to lose at least another 84 lbs before I can see a plastic surgeon to remove this excessive skin I have.  I can only imagine how bad it will look as I look at myself now in horror.  I bought a full length mirror, and if that is not a motivator, I don't know what is.  It is nice to wear new clothing, which is now getting bigger on me.

I went to a bar about 2 months ago and got hit on by 2 men!!!! Very flattering.  That hasn't happened in awhile.

I had to put down my darling Kelsey (my 14 year old Jack Russell) in October and have been mourning him constantly.  I miss the companionship.  Even though I am looking for a replacement I want to wait until after any plastic surgery.  I give myself a year!!!!

I have updated my photo, It is hard to tell in it that I have lost over 125 lbs.  My friends threw me a 60th birthday party!

I am going to be on TV!

Mar 18, 2009

March 19, 2009
Last night Dr Dent called and asked if I would accompany him on a CTV interview today.  They wanted to speak with a patient as well.  I don't know how many Dr D called before me but he didn't pressure me.  I know he asked my girlfriend (another patient of his) to do this about a month ago.  It may have been for another interview.  God, people will see me who knew me before I got as big as I am.  It will be interesting to note who tries contacting me after the viewing.
If people don't know, Dr Dent who runs the weight loss clinic out of the Civic hospital has been given funding to start a bariatic clinic here in Ottawa.  I don't know when it will air.  Will keep you posted.

I am back...  I was surprisingly not nervous.

Ugh I look so fat!!!  I guess that is the point of it all.

First post op visit

Jan 05, 2009

Dr Graber has agreed that Dr Dent at the Civic Weight Management Clinic will do all my visits.  So today was I weighed in and am down 54 lbs.   Woohoo.  Let me see 9 lbs before surgery and I am in week six.  Sooo 45 divided by 6= 5 lbs per week.  Thought it would be faster.  But,  for the last 4 days my energy has returned.  I am eating more protein (what I can keep down).  Still learning about bite sizes and chewing.  Hard habit to get used to.  My hands and my feet have gone down first.  I will add to my photos in a week or so.

I was addicted to diet coke prior to surgery and have not had any since.  Coffee I am gradually drinking, but only a cup occasionally not like my usual 3 cups daily pre surgery.

Hardest thing is drinking water.

I am returning to work tomorrow.  I have only been in 5 days since second week of November.  Got lots of work to catch up on.   Hope my energy levels remain up.

December 1 and already a wow moment

Dec 01, 2008

Just came back from my GPs office.  I had to get my blood test papers for the lab. I have lost 31 lbs since Nov 17th.  Total of 40 lbs since beginning of November.  No wonder I am weak and tired all the time.  But worth it!

Kelsey is better but is still drinking too much water and he looks skinny.  I hope it is not his diabetes.  I will call the vet today to make an appointment for blood tests.

I don't know what he will do when I return to work.  I plan on going in tomorrow to see how I feel.  I may just do 2 - 3 days a week until I feel better.
