I have struggled with my weight since I was about 15. People made fun of me because I was heavy, which only made me eat more to compensate for my lack of friends. My self confidence and self esteem suffered as a result of all the humor people found at my expense. I tried diet after diet and would lose a few pounds and then a few months later, I had gained those pounds back plus additional pounds. My doctor put me on diet pills and I gained even more weight. He suggested that I start thinking about bariatric surgery. I turned 40 and at that time in my life I was at a weight of 421 pounds. That is when different things started happening to my body, I experienced shortness of breath even walking short distances, my feet and back started hurting most of the time, and I had trouble staying awake during the day and sleeping at night. I started having to go to the doctor much more often to find out what could be done about all the things I was experiencing. During this time, I was diagnosed with severe chronic sleep apnea, and I already had GERD and a touch of asthma. I knew I had to do something to turn my life around or I would not make it to see my children grow up. I went to see Dr Voellinger and his staff at a bariatric seminar. It was truly a life changing experience. I have now lost 21 pounds and am eating healthier and exercising. I am committed to this lifestyle change. I am excitedly waiting for a surgery date.
